dvx100b car mount

Anyone have suggestions on a reliable car mount for my dvx100b? I want to mount the camera on the hood or windshield so that it's looking into the car and drive it like this on the highway (up to 60mph). It would be great to find something under $250 but any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

Well... I'm attempting a DIY one today. I'll post some pics and let you know how it goes by late tonight or tomorrow morning.

Yeah you can use a stickypod. I have one and use it with a light camcorder.

I believe you need atleast 2 base units for good stability if you wanted to safely secure a dvx's weight.

In the Uk www.fastfilms.co.uk can be a good place to get advice on this subject.

depending on what you are shooting (weather or not you need both front seats in shot), we stuck a MILLER SOLO tripod out the car, and just pushed hard against the window frame so it was super sturdy, dodgy i know...but it worked and we got the shot

Thanks for the help. Think I'll go for the one mentioned above and just strap the hell out of it. Cheers.

Which one?, and if you could post a pic of your setup when you have it I would appreciate it. Im still not shure which one to go with.

Here is another that I was looking at, the price should be around $250 but not shure on the shipping cost, there out of the UK. They say the use in on top gear.

I would be careful with that - from speaking to guys who mount cameras on sports cars that does not seems like a suction mount for a dvx only small camcorder - you need to use a few suction mounts to be more secure. I woudl contact retailers and check.

Sticky pod folks would recommend using atleast 2 for prosumer cameras to deal with the dvx weight.

I think your looking at the 1st mount on the site, the one I was looking at is the 4th down and they rate it for the DVX.

The Filmtools mounts are excellent. I have one of the "Gripper" models.

Last year I walked into Filmtools and asked them if there was any risk of the mount coming loose. An experienced cinematographer who works there told me he'd never, EVER -- in many years of using them -- seen it happen. Just to be safe I bought a strap, but I have a lot of confidence in the mount.

I shot this short with the GRIPPER:

The Filmtools Gripper 6' is perfect for DVX use. I've done a lot of work this is <100 unit. The shots are steady, and look great. Just for safety's sake, I also use tie-downs. Here's a link to a video I made using the car mount.

Here is MY car mount. I just ran it through some tests and it worked great. With this tripod, I can adjust the legs and move it closer to the vehicle and turn the camera facing foward or backwards but I was experimenting with it for a driver and passenger. Also, I have been able to mount this rig on my hood and shoot through the windshield.

I originally started looking at suction car mounts to do this shot but I can only spend so much money per month on gear! And I had all of these pieces in my barn.

Just thought that I would share this idea.

I put on my Porta Brace rain cover to keep bugs from collecting on my camera.

This system is working well. The Slik tripod has a pistol grip/ball head and legs that lock in any angle, making it very useful.

I plan to shoot through the front windshield as well with the rig. I've tested the mounting on it and it works great!

Okay.... more to come...

For the Gripper 486 model, are you using this with your DVX?
I was thinking about using this with my HMC150, but I'm concerned about strength.
I also can't afford the StickyPod director kit ($600) .. anyone using this with success?
I need to mount it on the outside of the windshield.
