DVX100a with FCP 4.5

i'm a newbie to the board, but not to the dvx. i've had a 100a for a year and have got some great results out of it.

i do however have issues with the quality of running it through FCP. i'm colour correcting the images and really making them look nice, but after i've burned them to dvd to watch they just dont have that edge. now i'm only using idvd which i appreciate isn't the best encoder in the world, but exporting from fcp just seems to lose resolution.

maybe im being picky but is anyone else experiencing the same?

i can make the shots look great in fcp, but not carry them through to dvd.

any suggestions/advice would be much appreciated.

Use compressor to export your footage to an actual m2v file. Then use Toast or DVD studio pro to put it to the DVD.

iDVD definitely not the way to go. It's compression is far from great. You want to go to "Export Using Compressor". When Compressor opens choose the setting that says, "Best Quality DVD" then select Mpeg 2 and Dolby for your audio. The result will be two separate files for your sound and picture that can be linked in DVD Studio Pro or Toast as mentioned by Vampiresoup. You can further adjust the compression settings before you export, but the preset is pretty decent. I would adjust further if you have a lot of motion in your shots. You do this in the inspector window of Compressor.

Best of luck.
