DVX100a - What to buy?

Hi, I'm new here :-[ but I've been reading these forums for the past few weeks. I'm looking to purchase a DVX100a from EVS for $3,479. All in all I can't afford to spend more than $4,200. I was wondering if you could suggest some "must have's" and any accessories that would keep me under my budget. I've seen a lot of chat about the 4073a shotgun mic, but I wasn't sure if I should spend all of my "accessories money" on that alone. I'm confused on whether to get a kit of Tiffen filters, carrying care, extra batteries, etc. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Re: DVX100a - What to buy?

ok, let's say you can spend around $700, so this is what I would put on the shopping list:
- Multicoated UV Filter to protect the lens: $50
- 2 extra batteries (buy the ones advertised on this site) $100
- some kind of bag or case, I would recommend a Pelican 1520 @ $100
- do you have a tripod, if not this is an absolute must, I recommend a Bogen 3221 with 503 head @ $450

the equipment I recommended is good quality and it will take some time until you outgrow it.
Try and get some gigs first, rent or borrow a 4073a or comparable mic for them and invest in
good audio after you have made some money.

You should get a tripod with a ball leveler. Trying to level your tripod by adjusting the legs will drive you insane in a hurry.

A decent quality tripod is a must above all other accessories (well, a case is good to have as well). If you have a bad tripod then it will ruin your shots.

That's the same tripod I would suggest, too. I own it, and for about $500 it's the best, lightest deal. If you need something totally on the cheap to get you by, but still have a ball leveler, maybe try a Libec TH-M20 for under $200. Not the best head, but good value for the money.

PS: Bryan, the DVXuser discount is much lower than the advertised price, and I just managed to bring the DVXuser discount down another chunk of $$$ for my customers, so you may be able to get more accessories now. Write me directly at rush@evsonline.com

Going through the server for quotes will only delay my response time, since I have to wait for the Webmaster to forward to me.
