DVX100a Shotgun Mic setup HELP!

hi guys, this is for my dvx100a, can someone please tell me if i have my settings right:

(1) My shotgun mic is connected to "input 2"

(2) in the front of the camera, "input 1" is selected to "mic" and "input 2" is selected to "mic"

(3) on the side of the camera, i have "CH 1 SELECT" to "input 2"...on "CH 2 SELECT" to "input 2"

(4) since i am using a shotgun mic, is it better to use phantom power or use a batter to power up my mic?

(5) on the power subject, on the side of the camera, which mic powers should i select if i use a battery and/or phantom?

any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thanx guys!

On my DVX100a, #1 through #3 on your list are the same.

Setting it as you (we) have means both channels of your audio will be recording the shotgun mic you've attached to the camera.

#4 I use the 48V Phantom power (the channel 2 "MIC POWER +48V" switch set to "ON") with no battery to run the mic. The draw off the camera battery, using a little extra power to run the shotgun, is not a concern. I'd rather do this than wonder if the battery in the mic is still good. It's "good" every time I change the camera battery. One less thing for me to worry about.

However, a few people claim to have had problems, over time, with the phantom power. All of a sudden it doesn't work. Won't power the mic. Others on this site can better explain this but there's some fuse or something on one of the internal boards which can blow. In other words...keep the battery handy.

A suggested prevention for this problem, that I also read somewhere here, encouraged you to only connect a mic to the inputs, plug or unplug a cable to an audio connection, with the camera powered OFF.

I have changed cables while the camera was on and nothing bad has happened (knock on wood). I've had my camera less than a year and have had no problems of this nature but several others have written about it. The phantom power works great on both channels of my camera.

#5 The clear answer to this question is put the channel one (1) "MIC POWER +48V" switch in the "OFF" position. Put the channel two (2) "MIC POWER +48V" switch in the "ON" position. If you run your shotgun with a batter. Then turn the channel two (2) switch to "OFF".

Best
