I am new here and I am looking into buying the DVX 100 and was just wondering what the difference is between the A and B models. Also, I've found a site selling the B model for $2500. Good price or scam??? Thanks!

Here you go...http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/100b/ this article tells all about the DVX100B.

$2500? Most Likely a scam. You should only buy a camera from an authorized Panasonic Dealer. And Panasonic is offering a $400 dollar rebate until the end of March. Do a search of authorized dealers and you will find a lot of information here.

As you will see, they have made a lot of improvements to the B model. I have the DVX100A and prefer that one because of one feature I use a lot - time lapse video shooting. For instance, you can set the camera up to shoot say 1.5 frames every 10 minutes. This means it is effortless to do time lapse video work. This feature was removed in the 100B. The one thing that drives my crazy with the 100A is that you get an echo if you are trying to use headphones to monitor your audio. I have abandoned the headphones and now go by the meter display on the LCD screen. This is not my preferred method when working with sound but I have not found a way around the echo issue. I am sure you will like either camera.

If you have a chance to watch some of the videos in the contest sponsored here, I think you will be amazed at what the camera is capable of achieving in the hands of an experienced operator.

Let us know what you decide to buy. Have a great day.

Unless you are doing time lapse the choice is very easy. All the improvements in the B are well worth the extra cost. If you ammortize it out over a year it will be a few dollars a week. Your resale value will also be higher.

After reading Barry's great book which points out the differences (which are also on this site in his review) I don't see how anybody would want to go with a A over a B unless the main purpose of the camera was for time lapse.

Get the B and you'll have no regrets.

100b or z1u?

100b or z1u?

does anyone know which gives a better picture the 100b dv/24 or the z1u dvcam/24?

Around 2450$US for a used DVX100A in perfect condition with 23 hours in the counter versus a new DVX100B at 3575$CAN(+15%tax). Great or not so great deal? The used one is from a contact, not ebay so I've got this covered.
