DVX100A or 100B?

I am wondering, those who have worked with both, if it is a better deal to go for the 100A with the current rebate discounts or just fork over the extra for the 100B? Anyone notice a large signifigant change?

For run and gun / documentary kind of shooting the noise decrease would be indispensable especially in interlace mode. ALso being able to see an a normal image when in stretch mode is handy and the higher resolution screen would also make shooting alot easier. I found going from the addition of the knee on the gamma curves on the 100b that wasnt on the 100 indispensable for external shooting and I'm sure the things I mention above would make life alot better when you cant control the environment.

IF you shoot alot of drama then it wouldnt make a huge difference and I' d save the money for lights. A little light would make a huge difference in your image. ALot more difference than a little less noise from the chips.

I would personally go with the B. I was up against the same decision a couple of weeks ago. My company asked me to put together a shooting package for corporate events and I recommended the DVX100B.

Of all the changes made to the B model, having the ability to see an underscanned image is a deal breaker for me, no question.

I would go with the 100B simply because of the ability to catch the underscan on the LCD monitor.

It really helps in post.

Thanks Gang...I guess that is what I would do. I have exactly enough for the HVX in my savings account but as more bills creep up, I may have to start chopping at it and if that is the case, I might swipe up a 100B.

But if I was a bit smarter, I'd give the money to the compnay now so I'd have to buy it!

is losing the time lapse feature on the Dvx B crippling? Does it work well enough on the DVX100a to get it to have that feature? Do the new features on the B outweigh losing this option?

What's the official word on the grain reduction? I know I've seen it thrown about quite a bit here and elsewhere, but is it really noticably improved? In other words -- anyone have both cams care to post proof in the form of grabs?

As a related aside -- if I'm tossing it up between a PD170 simply for low light (essential to the project in question), and the 100B, is the difference between the two cams staggering?

Thanks...

I wonder this as well. How is the DVX100B in low light?

If there isn't a great difference in price probably the "B" but you'll make some nice images with either one . . . I must admit my surprise though as I though pretty much all dealers were out of the "A" months ago?

Bump. I'd like to know from someone who has tested both cams side-by-side if the supposed 100B grain-advantage is just that, and noticably so, or just something that can only be seen with a comparitive graph on paper.

Barry?
