DVX100A footage stutters when played back

Before I state my problem, I should mention that I am new to Vegas, so there may very well be something simple that I am overlooking. The problem is that my DVX100A footage is playing back in a "stuttery" manner (it's not playing back smoothly.) What could I be doing wrong? I have a LaCie Firewire 800 HD, by the way. When I play normal interlace footage (from my Optura) through my NLE (Vegas) everything runs smoothly. What could I be overlooking?

are you editing your footage in a 29.97 fps timeline? if so, the computer has to go through another process to remove the pulldown during playback, since the default is to remove pulldown in 24p detected footage. try editing in a 24P timeline, should run much smoother.
