DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

eh i dont know if its worth it for 8000 dollars.. i suggest making a list of the stuff you really need and then comparing the total price. some of the filters and things can be had for much much less on ebay. i paid like 5 dollars for my UV filter. the screen hood isnt really worth it. also the anamorphic adapter will be hard to focus without a pro video monitor, so money should be spent on that instead.

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

Everything in there looks like top-notch stuff. I don't know how the pricing compares to buying it piecemeal, but it's all first-rate (none of that gray-market "sakar" or "digital optics" nonsense!)

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

I think the assesories you get from this kit is better: http://www.saferseas.com/vsd/eye/eye13.html

Actually, I think that, but I don't really know for sure. I am thinking of buying a modified version of this package from them for about $8000. I've heard safer seas is reputable. Any opinions on them and the package?

Thanks

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

Both of these shops have great reputations in the industry. Abel is one of the shops that the pros trust. SaferSeas has a shop in my town and the guy there are great.

The Able kit looks like the kind package I would build. That Chroszile matte box sure beats the piece-of-crap Cavision matte box that I am stuck with on the feature I am sooting presently.

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

Amen! I sent my 4x4 Cavision matte box back because it sags at the top and the cheesy flags don't stay connected.

What's more... they told me over the phone that there would be a $15 fee for restocking. When they got it back, they sat on it for several days before deciding to return 80% of my money.

That's right, they charged me a 20% restocking fee! I balked... but they claimed, "We cannot offer a full refund based solely on the customers opinion of quality.".

Well then... why did they tell me there would be a $15 restocking fee for the matte box on the telephone and then, once it was returned, they decided to keep 20% of the price and call it fair?!!!

Geesh! Did I ever learn my lesson. I intend to stay away from Cavision and their plastic toys and hold out for a Chrosziel.  In the meantime... I'm thinking about buying a "cheap" Matteblox to fill the gap and for down and dirty stuff.

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

Damn, sorry Terry. :-/

I have the 3 X 3 and although there are issues with the Vignetting in Rotation of the First Stage I have decided to stay with it. For me now, it is a matter of budget and priority; I have been satisfied with the product (obviously not the vignetting issue) but everything else has worked great for me.

I can Rotate but would have to remove Mattebox, then take off my HMC UV Sky and then put the Mattebox back and insert Filter from Under the Mattebox.

I too will not be buying again from them.

Barry, are you saying you'd get this package, or go piecemeal, ... and what would you get? if you were me?

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

Well, I'm not sure... I mean, looking at the list, the only thing on there that I'd definitely replace would be the microphone. Other than that, it's good stuff. Do you need all that stuff? Depends on what you shoot, I guess, and how much you have left over to spend on lighting/grip and rounding out the sound package.

And, again, I don't know how the pricing compares to piecemeal. Those batteries are probably costing top dollar, but they're *sweet*. The mattebox is the best one (imho) and is the only one that will work with the anamorphic adapter.

Without knowing more about your circumstances, I can't say that it's "right" for you. But compared to the crap accessories that are pushed by unauthorized dealers, this setup is at least composed of first-class stuff. Nothing you bought in that group would be junk (although, again, you can do better than that mic, and you'll need more audio gear, at least a good stand, cables, a lav or two, boom pole, a softie or zeppelin, etc... and lighting/grip gear... and some tapes...)

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

To Barry Green (or anyone who wants to share honest opinion):

I have compiled a list (MS Excel) and was wondering if you (anyone interested) would look it over and give me your opinion ( I've decided on staying under $35,000 G total)

I've made my e-mail public, so please, if anyone could look over my list and add their opinion (will send to any one who e-mails me:  dvxaza@hotmail.com  with their opinion would gladly appreciate it!) Thanks for anyone who wants to spend their time on a rookie,

Aza Allen

dvxaza@hotmail.com     (remember: list is in MS Excel)

Thanks more than I can put in words!

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

I can back up Safer Seas. Have bought pretty much all my gear from them over the past 2 years. Probably 6 different purchases and all of them have been great. Best prices I have ever found and the guys there are really helpful. Have been ripped off at a couple of other places, so have no problem talking up a place that has served me well.

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

well i have pretty much everything for my dvx-100a...

i have the cavision wide angle lens, i have a great bogen tripod 525 with 503 head, 5 dvxuser batteries :)

i have a great sennheiser shotgun mic and the sennheiser evolution wireless with an AT lav

about the only thing i am still wishing for is a better matte box and an anamorphic viewfinder adaptor.

i have read just about everything i can find anywhere about the various matteboxes for the dvx-100 and i still am quite confused.

could someone make a chart comparing them???

the review of the one on here seems like it is not worth it because of the amount that the bellows has to be retracted to avoid it being in the frame.

i have the cinetactics soft mattebox and it is ok but i really need to move up to a hard one.

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

I looked at both packages and the package from SaferSeas seems to be better equipment. With the $400 you'll save, you can put that toward a mic and tripod.

Re: DVX100A Filmmaker's Kit ???

The Safer Seas Package doesn't come with the DVX-100, the Abel package does, so I'd have to get the $15,000 (Saferseas)package, which may not even come with the 100a
