DVX100 Shotgun Mic or another?

I am getting my DVX100 on Monday and want to know if I should get the Shotgun Mic you see in all the pictures of the DVX100 (AGMC100G) or should I spend a bit more money and get something else..like a lav kit or another shotgun mic.

There has been a lot of good review on the AT897 11" Short Shotgun on here and if I go this route can it me mounted like the mic in the pictures of the DVX100 using the mic holder?

I know I know many of you will say that the mic depends on what you are shooting so I guess I will say shorts, docs..pretty much everything.  I want to dive right in and start making short movies.  So the biggest bang for the buck would be what?  Will the AGMC100G do the trick for starting out or should I spend a few more hundred dollars and start right?

I've heard nothing but ungoodness about the mic that Panasonic makes for the DVX. I'd go with something else.

Thanks for the reply. So does anyone know if I go with the AT897 will it mount just like the one that panasonic offers on the side with the mic clip?
