Hi,

I'm going to be making music vids for MTV and a comedy sketch show for Channel 4 in the UK. I would like to be able to zoom in and pan up/down/left/right in post production, without compromising pic quality/detail. I would rather do this on DVX but I don't know if the res is going to allow me to zoom much without compromising pic quality on a tv. Course the best thing would be to try out on both, but I'm not a millionaire yet. What do u think, do I need DVX100 or HD..

Cheers for any input.

Thanks,

HD. i am in a dilema because noone is hiring DVXers any more. Everyone wants HD..... Go with HD if youre in the position to purchase a camera.

I wonder if the producers you refer to are more inclined to go with an HDV camera rather than a DVX100? I would hope not.

HVX and Z1 are the two most popular. noone cares about the XLH1 or the JVc surprisingly. the folks that are hiring seem to want the Z1 adn the HVX.

Cool thanks for all that. I am not looking to be hired, but moreover for independent production, so that's not a problem. Are there any 35mm adapters for the HVX and Z1 apart from the M2? I don't like the softness of the Redrock M2 and been looking around but can't find many others.

I would love the G35 but they don't fit the HVX..

Thanks

Hi,

It seems that your question hasn't been answered yet.

If I understand correctly you'll need an image larger than standard definition.

Since you want to pan inside your image, it'll have to be larger than the area displayed on television. Video cameras are designed to record just as many lines and pixels as the television standard requires (PAL is 720 pixels x 576 lines).

If you were to zoom in SD footage, you would immediately compromise on detail and thus on quality. So, your only options are High Definition video or much more expensive: shoot on film and scan in at reasonably high resolution.

Hope that helps.

Sincerely,

Tim

Sgpro, Go 35, ifocus, Letus35...... the listgoes on.

and yes shooting HD will let you zoom pan and crop till your hearts content.
