DVX User Presidential Debate

1st Question to all candidates:

If elected President of DVX User (basically King of the World) what plan do you have to improve the lives of the everday, average DVXUser citizen?

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

If you elect me as president, Jarred will probably ban me for usurping his authority, so... well, I guess there'd be less posting going on, making for more free time for DVX users...

... but if you elect Jarred, that'll leave me more time to work on the upcoming Lighting DVD... :)

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

If I am elected I promise a UV Filter for every Leica lens, and a zeppelin for every shotgun.

I will also lock Barry Green up in a room and make him work 24 hours a day on the next DVD. How long did the last one take you? Like a month? That's just not quick enough. I say 1 DVD per week. MINIMUM.

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Question #2 :  If elected President, what would you do concerning Ratings on movies, documentaries, animations , and all general programming?  Would you keep it as it is now, create a stricter system, or make it free porn for all?

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Well, I have chosen Rich Lee as my running mate. Under his advisement I am going to go with free porn for all.

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

If TC is elected, I would find movie ratings irrelevant, since I would be locked up in a room cranking out new DVD's.

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Once the stores of knowledge in your brain have been depleted, you will be set free.

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Okay... seriously... this locked-up-in-a-room, turning-out-DVD's thing could work. Someone else suggested a subscription thing too.

If we did it as a "subscription basis", and we could get a few hundred subscribers who pay $40/month for the DVD's (or books, whichever is the more appropriate for the subject matter)... then you guys would make a list of subjects you want covered, and each month we'd pick one and I'd do whatever I could to make the most comprehensive training/examples/illustrations for that subject...

I think that would be a pretty cool job. I mean, I love teaching, I love learning (can't tell you how much I learned about the DVX just doing this DVD!), I love writing, and with a subscription base of guaranteed sales we could go into so much more detail.

I mean, one month you guys could say "settle the XL2 question once and for all." So we could devote a disc to going in and extensively comparing the DVX against the XL2 in all possible ways: lens to lens, all XL2 lenses, with & without anamorphic, 16:9/4:3, user friendliness, HD up-rezzing, how do they look transferred to film, interviews with some cinematographers on which they prefer, etc...

Or, let's learn everything in the world about the Sony FX1...

Or, let's go into a complete tutorial on lighting on a budget. How to get that X-Files look when all you have is some black wrap and some worklights. Step-by-step. (actually that's the next spec DVD we'll be doing, I think).

Or, the ultimate location sound production tutorials, talking about various mic's and miking techniques, live audio tests and reports on all the major microphones, wireless techniques, on and on...

Or, maybe we could do 'em on specific jobs. As in, here's how you bid on, land, write/produce/edit a local television commercial, step by step. Or, here's how you shoot a wedding, what equipment you need, how to get the right shots, whatever.

I don't know, you guys tell me what you think...

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

To some the price seems steep, but people spend Thousands of dollars to go to college, graduate, and still don't know what they want to do with their lives. When you do know what you want sometimes unconventional or unique learning opportunites are a better way to go, plus you learn specifically more tha you would in college sometimes.

Also, it is a choice, not a requirement.

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Hey Pookie, people had asked about it. So I threw it out there. I throw lots of things out there. Some will stick. Some will flop. I'm just trying to find a way to turn a passion into a vocation... if there's demand, then great. If there isn't, then no big worry, right?

And if there is demand, what's wrong with filling the demand?

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Hi Barry, perhaps I misunderstood your "subscription" proposal (hardly the first time).

You seem to be discussing something unrelated to the thread "DVX User Presidential Debate".
This gives the impression, to those not following along (like myself), that you're trying to change DVX USER into a "pay for it forum" for $40.00 per month, that includes a DVD of the month.

Perhap's this isn't the best place for this idea to be discussed.

btw, as I seem a little more up to speed, it is a good idea, and I say best of luck.

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Oh no! The joke gets taken seriously!!

Many of us just dropped $60 on Barry's new DVD/ Book. Now we would pay $40 each month for a new volume of relevant information. Seems like a steal to me...

We should probably start a new thread for this...

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

Okay, I see what you're saying. IN NO WAY is anyone suggesting to turn DVXUser into a pay forum! No way, no how, not gonna happen (at least if I have anything to say about it!)

(which, of course, I don't -- it's Jarred's house, but I'm certain he would agree).

No, you're right, this is the wrong thread, it's been hijacked -- sorry 'bout that, I placed it in the wrong place (just following up on TC's suggestion was all).

Sorry 'bout confusing things! :)

I am all for this (as I bet many others would be) and think it is seriously worth Barry looking into

Re: DVX User Presidential Debate

It is the right forum, this is the debate. Debate about what you want. The election is a joke, as most are (sorry about the political comment) but the debate about ideas, sharing inforamtion that benefits everyone, and having it put into a seriously educational system is unbelieveably necessary.
