OK guys, don't flame me for the suggestion. I've been a DVXUser.com member for at least 5 years and it's my #1 resource to go to for all film/video questions and answers. Although I don't post all that much, I love reading what people have to say and visit about 3 times a week on average.

Let's face it, another 3 years and any model with a DVX is going to be ancient history compared to anything out at the time. Right now we have a lot more interesting stuff going on with the 150 and 170 coming out.

So, with that said, how about renaming the site to something more generic than DVXUser.com? I mean, we have a DVXUser magazine shipping for God's sake! Why not attract more people to this site by offering advice on all cameras (that have a semi-professional quality)? We already have sections for the HVX, Sony EX-1, other Sony cams, Canon cams, even the Red (which fortunately has it's own site).

But wouldn't it be great to have a site to go to with all the different manufacturers models on it, and ONE great domain name that encompasses them?

How about it Jerrod? I'm sure you thought about this before.....

ya, i agree. i dont have a dvx but this has become my go to place for film advice and discussion. a new name would be great.

We do offer so much information on 'other' cameras because they lack the wonderful forum support DVXuser offers.

A name change would be more appropriate, but like any established organization, a name change costs you. Not only will there be initial confusion and perhaps loss of possible members, but would require a drastic redesigning of all that is DVXuser.

You would be surprised what goes into such a name change. For instance my family owns a business which in recent history, the local government decided to rename the road, in honor of a local man who was a community leader. It's a nice act on the governments part, but we on the other hand had to change the website, advertisements, radio spots, billboards, everybody's business cards, all letter heads, addressed envelopes, paperwork, legal documents, etc, etc, etc. And of course all expenses were ours to pay, not to mention people who were unaware of the road name change, and became confused trying to find the store. It's all water under the bridge now, but for the first six months it cost us money to update, and customers as a casualty of confusion.

You see any name change is a big deal.

And it cant be cheap to change the Sunset Blvd. billboard.

I agree, the Sunset Blvd sign would be a pain in the ass to change. :P

Changing a website is not that hard. The old domain just forwards to the new one. Rechange the header logo on the top and you are good to go. Keeping the old DVXUser domain for 6 years will cost $60. Jerrod would make that back in no time with the advertisements he does on the site.

I fact, it's a new money making opportunity with new shirt possibilities, new contests, etc. All with a new, larger user base!

How about a "contest"?

A Panel of DVXUSER MODS and prestigious members select, from a thread, lets say 5 possible names (from thousands of entries, i imagine- hell, that'll be the hard work!), which then would be up for voting in a system similar to the DVXFESTS- only users with x amount of posts can vote, etc. etc.

Winner gets a Tshirt, a mattebox, whatever a sponsor wants to give, and the other 4 finalists get the tshirt or a cheaper prize.

I suggest keeping the font and the BLUE/GREY Lettering for continuity's sake. :)

I don't think Jarred or the Mods need incentives to pick a good name. lol

Without that T-shirt prize the mods lazily picked "Camera Stuff and Whatnot Users" as the new official DVXuser name. :)
Plus the T-shirt prize would just be a DVXuser shirt on clearance. haha

anyone know what happened with http://www.24puser.com? it used to forward to dvxuser.com but looks like the domain ran out and someone else snaked it. hvxuser.com still forwards here. maybe there are some others as well?

you guys freak out if penguin changes his avatar. I can't imagine the fallout of a site name change.

I agree with Timur, DVXuser is more than just a camera, it's been turned into a brand. Something that signifies the 24p digital revolution. Like this would be the year 5 AD (after DVX).

LOL.

I recall this has been brought up before (maybe twice in the past), its something that always ends up splitting users left and right.

But it can quickly become circular (as a I remember), for every good reason a counter good reason exits too.

Best to just sit on the fence on this one.

I thought it stood for "Digital Video generation X" user? How is that not timeless and relevant to all of us on here?
