DVX to 35mm print

I managed today to get to see a blowup of DVX 24pa projected on 35mm.
I had arranged to view this at Rainmaker Post and Transfer in Vancouver, the company that had done the uprez is a company called Digital Film Group also located in Vancouver.

Aside from the DVX to film they had a variety of things to show me on 35mm including PD150, Panasonic 900 and Digital Betacam. I also saw the DVX to 35mm with and without the anamorphic adapter.
(Personally I did not like the look of the anamorphic adapter with the blow up.)

To try and sound cool and all.......it was bloody amazing.
The DVX with the correct exposure and 24pa setting holds it's ground extremely well. I saw the clips of Nancy's from November, as well as Jarred/Todds film...they looked amazing. As well as some tests shot in Alaska.

The Digital Film Group have offered to output some tests to film for my next project.
I came to realize the true power of the DVX in the right hands and the proper finishing process to 35mm and HD.

Thank you Panasonic...now when can we get the $5000 HD camera with 24pa.

Re: DVX to 35mm print

What were some of the differences between the DVX w/ anamorphic to 35mm and DVX without? And, why do you prefer without?

Re: DVX to 35mm print

Regarding the anamorphic adapter...it is a real pain to focus and that became a little apparent but also that it displayed a slight softness (could have been operator error.)

IHi, Taylor ,

've been considering buying the anamorpic lens, so after reading your comments I decided to do a search.

First, never zoom all the way in. Don't zoom past Z90.

Second, open up the iris all the way to grab focus. Stop back down for your actual shot.

Third, try to keep as high an iris as you can stand. Try to avoid shooting at f/2.8 if you can, shoot at 5.6 or more to get just that much more depth of field.[/quote]

Panasonic claims three meters or about six feet at full telephoto. Personally, I found that the camera delivered plenty of detail in close ups using the onboard squeeze mode, however wide shots are decidedly soft, so I will definitely use the adapter for everything but tight close-ups.

Is your experience similar to what Barry and Jim report, or did you have additional difficulties?

Re: DVX to 35mm print

I personally have not shot with the anamorphic lens, I have justed viewed footage shot with it then transfered and project on 35mm.

Barry is the man to listen too.  Best approach would be to rent a anamorphic lens and do tests on your own.
