DVX slow to record!

Hey folks
It seems my DVX has moments from the time it takes to hit the record button, to the time it actually starts rolling, is at times delayed. (Nice run on sentence) Dirty heads? Or something more serious? I clean the heads about every ten hours with a tape, but am due for a proffesional cleaning. What do you think.

The day I got my DVX I noticed the same thing. If I am understanding you correctly from when you hit record to when the timecode starts running smoothly there is a 2-3 second gap, correct?
This is what I noticed on mine, and I immediately PM'd Barry Green who told me it is totally normal and not to worry. It is part of the make up of the camera. It still works and you don't have a dud or anything. No problems there.

Prairieboy is a pretty seasoned user of the camera, so I'm guessing it's something more than the normal record lag. How long are we talking here?

Yes more than the normal couple of seconds, at times as much as a four or even a five count.. And not always the same. That is the part that has me worried the most.

Hey Horse, how is ya?

I'm doing pretty well! You? We should get a beer or twelve sometime soon.

I've never had this happen to me, but think I remember someone else mentioning something similar awhile back. Now if only I could remember what the response to the problem was.:undecided

AS long as the words money, and sacks of, are not in the answer to this dilema.
I am up to the homelands for Thanksgiving I this weekend, but hey after that I am game. Been too long.

if its in stanby mode, it takes like 5 seconds, but if its just briefly paused, its much quicker like 2 aeconds

Hi,
Have you set the internal clock?!
I know on the Sony DVcams, if you don't set the internal clock it takes 5 or so seconds to record....once the clock is set 1/2 a sec!
Worth a try at least.
Hope that helps!

P2 would solve it, got to keep waiting. What worries me that the time varries. I have been using this camera from the original version, and I do not recal the times being different.

Yeah...I guess I should've at least mentioned something about the actual problem, but, well, that just makes so much...sense. Anyway, I have always had my camera go back about 1 second from the paused TC, and than take 2 seconds (1 second past paused TC) to get up to speed. So, for example, if I stopped the camera and the TC read 00:25:13;02, it would roll back to something like 00:25:12;05 and than roll off-speed to something like 00:25:14;01 and once I feel good that it's rolling properly "Action!" I'm of course just going by the LCD readout so it could be up to speed a lot quicker than I think, but I'd say 2 or 3 seconds sound about normal, though this has never really seemed like a very consistent thing. Basically I'd say keep shooting and even though it sounds crappy, which it kinda is, you may just have to wait until something bad actually happens to figure out if there's a real problem. Maybe not though, I should really stop talking like I'm an expert. Or just stop talking alltogether.
Peace,

-Harry
