DVX shorting out?? Help!

Hi guys -- I have been practicing with my brand new DVX, and have noticed that on several occasions now (at least 4 or 5 times), the camera has mysteriously powered off when I was in the middle of doing something. At first I thought this was just a battery-saving feature if left on too long, but I've now confirmed that it happens when I am actually doing things, and when the camera has not been on for long. For example, I turn on the camera and start manipulating settings to expose and set up my shot, and I'll press a button like white balance or auto-iris, and all of a sudden the camera will just shut down. This is not normal, is it?!?!? Anyone else have something like this happen? I'm assuming I should call panasonic but just wanted to make sure this is not some normal thing that I am missing, like the now classic "clicking sound." Thanks for your help!

It probably *is* the head-saving feature. If the tape isn't rolling, it will shut off...whether ot not you're doing other stuff.

There's a menu option to turn it off.

I just got my DVX last week and noticed the same thing. It is the feature that Dan noted. There's a menu option to use "Standby" instead of "Off".
