DVX SHORT FILM FEST?

What steps are necessary to get this DVX only short film fest going? I know there is an issue of bandwidth; but I think that can be worried about later;

Is this something we can all start talking about? Can we get this thing rollong or what?

start shooting :) I have a few projects I am in the middle of that need to be done first, then I can get that organized.

will be a short and feature catagory.. dont know If I am gonna make people shoot a theme or not. mmmm..

just a suggestion.., but one thing that we may want to take into consideration if doing a dvx only film fest with any sort of substantial prize, is limiting the $ amount that can be spent on the enitre project from start to finish to make it more interesting. and, if the prize is to be of any considerable value (perhaps even if not), it would be nice to see the playing feild leveled, instead of biased towards those who have alot of money to throw at it.. (so the rich get richer). somtimes even equipment restrictions are in order.. (simply because some people may already have free access to alot of great equipment, and therefore would still be in budget when using it) anyhoo its just a thought , and if the prize is
not too substantial ..then its not nearly as pertinent.
but i just thought id drop the suggestion and see what you all think about it. i personally think that it really brings out the creativity and ingiuity / skill of individual filmmakers when they are limited to what is the essentials of filmmaking, and cant rely on more expensive gadetry to artificially inflate the production value. then what you are left with, is a contest between filmmakers, instead of a contest between pocketbooks.
i guess that even if the prize was just the honor of winning , i think it would be neat to see a set of production rules implemented, and see what people come up with .

I understand your point.. but I am a pretty firm believer that you cant buy good. Some of my favorite movies are low budget... that said maybe we should have a prize for cheapest.

:) i  completely agree that you cant buy good filmmaking.
just a suggestion.. thought it might possibly get more people to participate.  feel less intimidated. ..or just make it more interesting ..but personally it dosnet bother me.  look at how much money they throw at making films like "willard"       ...good grief.

your really thinking about having a feature catagory . i hope i have enough time to make even a short!

oh yeah ..i do like the idea about the prize for the cheapest.. but it should be for the cheapest made film in a catagory like "best film made for under 100.00" - otherwise someone will just roll cam on their pets behind for 10min for the cost of a tape....lol

I think I would win bestfilm for cheapest... NOt for skill, but because everyone would say "Wow. He really does'nt have equiptment!"

I like the idea of a possible theme in that nothing gets submitted thathas already been shot or been sitting around in the bin waiting for a reason to be released, and I think it's interesting to see everyones different visions on a similar subject matter... I think we can get a good example of how each filmmaker sees a subject matter in their minds.

I would like to see the cost to enter/prize cost etc not only make it worth our while, but make it worth jarreds while in running this whole monster that is the dvxuser.com!

Jarred shouldn't be carrying the whole cost of DVXuser.com
I certainly would be willing to contribute finacially considering how much a BIG help this forum has been to my newly aquired DVX knowledge.

Maybe a Paypal deal?

I think if we don't allow previous shot productions then the entries would be very limited... although we could instead do a 2 minute theme.. meaning every movie needs to be 2 minutes or shorter.. that way everyone should be able to come up with something... without investing too much time or money.

Maybe make some shirts up too for the applicants.

ive just recently considered joining in the fun, but ive been too busy with my feature to consider it till now. i thought i might slap somthing together for early next year though.
