Well, it's only a one day gig, but I'll be running 2nd camera on a commercial shoot this Friday. I'm a total newbie not just to the DVX, but to "professional" video as a whole. The producer, a friend of mine from a night job we share, is 100% fully aware of my (lack of) experience but was still happy to give me the job because my work will be so straightforward and he was in a bind with another guy's camera breaking down at the last minute (Canon - go figure). Oddly enough, he called me only days after I got the camera when I was wondering if I made the right choice spending $$ I frankly don't have. Instantly made me feel like I did the right thing taking a financial risk to pursue something important to me.
He told me he could "only afford $300" for the day! I would have done it for the experience alone, but my friend insisted he was happy to pay and wouldn't do it any other way. Ten more gigs like that and the camera's paid off! (not likely to happen soon, but a nice thought nonetheless.) Just wanted to blab about my exciting news. Hope to learn from the experience and getting paid is just an unexpected and appreciated bonus!
Oh yeah, if you're in the Chicago area, look for the commercial at the end of August. It's for a drug & alcohol recovery center. Here's the content:
Female figure shot B&W walking down street and then entering front porch of a home and knocking on door (pre-recovery). Next, Color shot (my dvx) - the same woman answers the door (in recovery) and "meets herself" at the door where they exchange dialogue. Animated jigsaw puzzle pieces, which are part of the center's logo, will be featured somewhere in the commercial, too. If you see it, let me know!
