DVX or FCP problem (or mine)?

Hi, I've already asked this question at the end of another thread, but getting no reply I decided to begin a new thread. This problem is not with horizontal interlace lines, but what looks like vertical "dither" lines (?)

here is a frame grab:

if you look closely at the dancer's skirt you will see the jagged edges. I've never seen this before, though I've been shooting in 24p for many months now. this is 24p not 24pA, captured into FCP under normal NTSC settings, showing 29.97fps in the browser, etc. everything appears normal. why this effect?

another thing: i have noticed recently that the LCD display and the viewfinder exhibit a strange "ripple" effect when I move the camera quickly up and down: horizontal lines appear on the screen for the duration of the movement and disappear as soon as the camera stops. they are not obtruive, but noticeable. could there be a connection?

I would like to show this strange effect to a specialist.. but where does one take one's DVX camera for expert advice (without sending it off somewhere?) I live in New York.

Very best

RC's got the answer... but be careful with reds and the settings of your dvx. The reds will pop on this camera and tend to blur naturally in DV 422.

thanks for the quick replies. the user on the other thread is definitely having the same problem. i will have to look into the remedies mentioned there.

but how do I avoid the problem in the future? does the pixelation have something to do with the low lighting of the background? I haven't seen the colors do this in any other lighting situation. I am using the default settings for the 24p scene file (except 1/48 shutter). should i change some of the settings next time i film with stage lighting like in this case? is there anything else that would minimize the problem in the future?

thanks again

Do some tests with changing your chroma levels on the camera. Take a look at bringing down some of the reds.

BUT -- remember trying to keep red titles 'in the lines' on VHS? Well -- DV isn't gonna help that either.
