DVX on the Big Screen

This past week-end was my short film premiere.

It was fantastic, we had over 200 people attend, and the feedback was excellent.

But perhaps the most exciting part was how great our DVX footage looked on the big screen.  It was phenomenal.  For lack of a better way of saying this, it looked like a "real movie".  There was no pixelation or compression artifacts or anything that easily gave away that it was digital.

We had several industry people in the audience and they were stunned by the quality.

Overall, it was an amazing event.  I hope all you fellow DVX'ers get a chance to see your work on the big screen, it is an awesome feeling.

Re: DVX on the Big Screen

A short I did is playing at a cinema in Toronto this december! I know I'm very excited to see how the DVX holds up!

CMessineo, did you feel like a celebrity the day of your screening? It must have been so much fun!

Re: DVX on the Big Screen

I've seen it look really good on bog-standard "mini" projection screens, but a cinema screen would be interesting...

What was this projected onto?

Re: DVX on the Big Screen

Shaw and AndyJ: The screen was approximately 40 x 24 feet and it was truly shocking to me how good it looked.

Mike: It was a little surreal. Sitting in that theater, watching the lights dim, the curtain pull back, and then seeing my opening credits, well, I must of been grinning from ear to ear.

Re: DVX on the Big Screen

Before the films started I was shaking. I kept expecting to blow the projector bulb or for the sound to cut out. But once the audience started laughing (the first short was a comedy) I was in heaven.

After the screening the cast and crew came up front for a Q&A with the audience. I was nervous for a minute and then it was just more fun than I could imagine. Having people ask me about my film was very cool.

I really hope more filmmakers get to have that experience.

Re: DVX on the Big Screen

That's awesome :D. I'm glad you had that opportunity!

Might I inquire as to what sort of projector you used? I know they range wildly in quality. I find that most projectors have a horrible tendency to clog up the black end and have weak contrast. So I'm naturally curious about what you used!

Re: DVX on the Big Screen

I was very worried about the projector not being bright enough and the dark areas on the screen just disappearing into black. However, the projector was amazing. Everything was crisp and bright, I wouldn't have changed a thing.

The projector we used was a 3M x70. It is a $6,000 projector with 3,500 lumens.

I was able to borrow this projector (brand new) through some connections at work.

Re: DVX on the Big Screen

Carlos,

I would love to share the film with my fellow DVXers.

Unfortunately many of the festivals we are submitting to, won't take a film if it is available on the internet to watch.
