hello,
you need a DC to AC inverter. radio shack will set you up. plug it into the cigarette lighter in the car - the inverter will have a regular AC socket on it - just plug in the AC power supply for the DVX and away you go.

Is there a way to go straight from a 12 volt battery without using the bulky charging unit.
I use a small motorcycle battery now to power my on camera light. I was hoping that in an emergency I could also power my cam from that battery plus by comparison motorcycle batteries are cheep.

Just get a 12DC to multi-voltage adapter. Radio Shack should have it.
You need 7.2 volts DC and the right plug for the DVX100. Its very standard and should be one of the included plugs with the adapter.
Pick up a set of large alligator clips and cut the cigarette lighter plug off and put the clips on.
Your all set.

Just remember when you turn your car off your camera is gonna jar and you will probally break your timecode.. so make sure you turn your camera off before you kill the car.
