DVX not detected, so... MiniDV Deck?

I was thinking - since my comp doesn't detect my DVX100B, maybe I could get a DV deck that's compatible with Vista. Then I started looking around at prices - they seem to range from $1600-$13000... so I quickly dropped that idea.

Those prices are more than the camera itself... why are they so high? Are they worth it?

Yeah... deck price's are VERY high, and I don't really understand it either. The lowest I've seen is around $700 for a mini DV "player". It has a small screen, kind of like a portable DVD player... not even a pro deck.

Buy yourself a small, crappy camcorder and use it as a deck. I got one off of ebay about 3 years ago, log 10-15 tapes a week, and haven't had a problem yet (knock knock). It also come's in handy on vacations, location scouting, and anything else where I don't want to haul around my pro gear.
