DVX mic mount extender

Does anyone know of a cheap extender for the mic mount that came with the DVX.

I bought the Rycote Softie for my ME66 at BH Photo Last weekend when I was up in NYC. I noticed that when I have it on the DVX with it's mic mount at full wide I can see a few hairs on the top right hand side of the screen.

If I can extend it an inch up I should be fine.

Has anyone had this same issue?

Re: DVX mic mount extender

Yeah thats one of the first things I tried but the Softie is to long. One idea I had was to cut it and make it shorter.

Re: DVX mic mount extender

You might be able to raise the mic high enough with a holder that fits into the shoe just behind the cam's mic. I had the same problem so I now use Mighty Wonder's Mini Rover so the mic is out to the side and out of shot. The Mini Rover also makes my handheld stuff a lot more stable.

Mighty Wonder's Mini Rover? What exactly is this? I did a search on google and came up with nothing.

Re: DVX mic mount extender

Sorry, it's made by Mighty-Wondercam (Videosmith). Here's a link to the Mini Rover on B&H Photo's page:

Re: DVX mic mount extender

Ah Ok I see it attaches to the bottom of the camera right. I was looking for something smaller but I guess this is a good option.

Re: DVX mic mount extender

I got something similar for $15 at my local camera store. The handle has a hand grip to help stabilize the camera when I shoot handheld and the shoe is far enough out that when I use my Mike Muff it doesn't show up in the lens.

Re: DVX mic mount extender

go back to the B&H site and search for "MZQ100"  that will pull up a page that includes the MZQ100 mic mount for a 416.  get one of those, take off the mic CLAMP portion of the panasonic mic mount that came with your DVX. Take the MZQ100 apart - remove the 1 screw that attaches the mic mount part from the threaded section for the mic stand.

Attach the remaining part of the MZQ100 to the rear-most screw of the remaining mic MOUNT on the body of the DVX by using the panasonic screw thru the hole in the MZQ100 and a couple of washers - and poof!  mic mount that fits your mic, keeps it in a relatively stock location but raises it out of the frame and allows for easy removal if necessary....

Re: DVX mic mount extender

I used a small piece ( 1 inch and a quarter X 1 inch wide) of pvc flat stock. Drilled holes on one end to match up with the original screw holes, then matched up the mic holder mount holes on the other end of the flat stock and I raised the Mic up enough to avoid the large french flag.

Re: DVX mic mount extender

Bingo. Great tips guys. I was looking for the exact same solution to raise an ME66 above the mattebox with a windjammer on it... and here it is.

Re: DVX mic mount extender

kai - thats true. my purpose for using the MZQ mount is a) it allows me to take the mic off quickly/easily. b) it raises the mic to clear my mattebox. c) it DOES offer a little shock mounting as its made of rubber...but a true shock mount, no.

oh - and sennheiser now has the MZQ200 (as opposed to the -100) that is a bit bigger and made precisely for the K6 series. just fyi.

Would you have a picture of the mount?

bilgami,
Suppose I want to use this bracket to attach o/c light + mic shock mount (with mic attached [duh])...Then I want to put the cam on the tripod. Since the bracket goes into the bottom of the camera, how will I be able to use the right angle bracket and tripod simultaneously?
Thanks.
