DVX epiphany

I have been scouring the boards for the past 3 months. Reading all this and all that about how great the DVX is.

I purchased mine a couple of days ago and all I can say is that no matter what you read or see about this camera, it means nothing compared to when you actually flip it on for the first time.

This is my best purchase ever. Thanks for all the insightful info from Barry, Jon, Jan, Barry and the rest of the boards.

I'm hoping to get into Grad. School with this, so it makes the purcahse even that more meaningful (not that it needed it).

I think my very first post on this site was similar to this one that you made. The first time you turn it on and see that what you are shooting looks just like anything that you see on television or in the theatre, it is truly a mind blowing experience. You can read on these sites all day long three hundred different testimonials and everything along those lines, but until you actually SEE the footage in action there is no point in trying to assume what it is actually going to look like.

Seeing is believing, and this thing delivers in spades.

Yeah I felt the same way. Wait till you see the opening sequence with the girl waking up in her bed in Alex's BROKEN if you have'nt already. Man I swear.. I thought I was watching the beginning of a John Carpenter movie.

The DVX is an amazing piece of equipment. Sometimes I've been guilty of taking it for granted....then I will log onto DVXUser, see someone else's footage, go "Wow!" and be reminded of its potential.

Recently I bought a nice Panasonic 3CCD consumer cam (GS150) for casual vacation use. It's a fun little camera, even has Leica glass, but the images it produces PALE in comparison to the DVX.

I remember when I first got my hands on my own DVX. It was a good day indeed! Enjoy.

That was an exciting day for me as well. I stumbled into a grey-market site that tried to rip me off, so I cancelled my order and ordered from b&h.

So it made the arrival of the camera an even sweeter experience, just because I'd been through more to get it. Just walking around filming random stuff the first few days had me just blown away. Seriously. If the dvx were a woman, I'd marry her and make babies.

I've never seen a camera that can litterally make anything look beautiful.

I was sitting in a dimly lit hotel room, shooting random stuff. I decided to get some shots of a water glass sitting upside down next to an ice-bucket. F6, default, it looked like something out of a movie. I'll post a pic once I get a firewire cable and a laptop more capable of vid-caputre (3-4 days).

Dammit, Churchie! I won't be able to sleep 'til I see the shot of that upside down glass next to the ice bucket. You're a visionary. :) :) :)

Don't mind Terry--he's just mad because his Dimly Lit Icebucket: The Movie was a terrible flop. Seriously, welcome to the forum. :)

And once more, I 'll say that Angelina Jolie will never agree to play the part of the upside down glass.

Just wait 'til the debut of DLI-2.

Yeah, I'm kinda ornery like that.

It may take a while to get it posted. There were 3 or 4 visual effects that just weren't working.

We tried to get water to stay in the upside down glass but the free copy of Magic Bullet doesn't have a "fake water inside a glass" look to it. Any suggestions would be helpful.

On a serious note, in retrospect it sounded stupid, but hey, don't act like you didn't want to show your first DVX footage to everyone you saw.

I had the exact same experience. I just shot whatever I could, and I showed it off to anyone who would humor me. It is an exciting camera, and some of the footage I've seen people get with it on these boards simply amazes me. BTW, I'd love to see the upside down glass/ice bucket pic!
