DVX Controller 521p

I have a Manfrotto zoom controller that I recently purchased and have been using on my Panasonic camera....the 521P.

I just purchased a Canon XH-A1. My question is if I changed the mini plug end on the 521P to be rewired to the Canon's lanc port, would the controller now control the Canon?
If I had a female miniplug that reconfigured the male end, then I could use the controller and adapter on either camera.
Obviously this depends on whether or not the electronics work. A couple of years ago I made a controller (instructions from a DVXuser member) and all it comprised of was a 10K variable pot and a simple switch (to control the on/off function).
 
It definitely won't work. The XH-A1 uses LANC, which is a serial communication format. The DVX uses contact closure and resistance. Changing the plug will only result in the controller not working on either camera, unfortunately.
