Re: DVX Case

Kai, if not mistaken, I notice that you've removed only one layer for the camera. Since the 1650 is a much larger case, do you find that the one layer is sufficiently thick enough to accomodate the camera when the case is closed? Does it bulge slightly when the lid is closed?

Re: DVX Case

no, it doesn't bulge at all... it's a perfect fit. The camera fits nice and snug and secure in there. The only thing slightly protruding into the lid foam is the stock mic mount, (which I don't even use so I took it off) Other than that, it's completely flush with the foam.

Re: DVX Case

Hey Kai, thanks for the info. I also have the 1650 and noticed that when I have my AG-DVX100A inside, the section attached to the hand strap toward the rear of the camera protrudes slightly into the lid foam. There's no bulge for me but it does push the lid foam. Although there's nearly 2 inches of depth on the 1650's lid, I was wondering if I should cut deeper... Maybe I can move the foam in the lid around to see if I can get that handle part to slip between the egg crate foam instead of pushing against it. I'll post a picture soon.

Re: DVX Case

B&H just started stocking the DVO-2, it's $250... Apparently you can get it for $230 from enggadget.com, if you call them (not listed on their website yet).

I'd love to have the DV Organizer, but I think it's too big to carry-on, which takes it off my list.

Re: DVX Case

I use the Cinebags production case.. it holds absolutely everything, and I dont need to take the mattebox etc. off the camera.

It is big though, like most production cases are, and basically is meant to be on a cart or in a truck as its not the best thing to be walking down the street with.

Offer at petrol developed a nice shade for our 7" Panny monitor (much better than Hoodman). At DV Expo he showed me a prototype for a new bag for small cameras and asked for my input. I gave him my changes and he showed up at NAB with it, where i bought one. It fits in an overhead, has wheels and an extendable handle, even has hidden backpack straps. Very nicely done, I have it crammed with lots of stuff along with the DVX-100a.

Re: DVX Case

Any ideas on a bag that will fit the dvx with 4x4 mattebox & rods and still fit in an overhead?

I need another alternative to the 1650 for short trips.

Re: DVX Case

Should fit in a Pelican 1520 case that is if you want it in a hard case. I have my Cavision 4x4 Matte box in my old Hi-8 camera case and fits it perfectly. I know Porta Brace makes a case just for matte boxes but its close to $300 if I am not mistaken. My 1520 case fit in the overhead of a Southwest plane with left over room for another bag/case if needed.

Re: DVX Case

I'm looking for a bag/softcase... that I can have the cam fully assembled without having to take the mattebox off.

Re: DVX Case

KAi.. the cinebags will hold 2 dvx's with mattebox and follow focus without disassembly :)

Re: DVX Case

You can probably fit a small child in that Cinebag! The thing is huge but I doubt very seriously that will fit in the overhead on a plane.

Re: DVX Case

I am using a Kata TCCT ( http://www.tiffen.com/kata_TCCT.htm ) for my DVX + accessories. Probably overkill for a DVX (but I won't argue when work will pay for it ;D ), and it does not have as many pockets I as I might like, but plenty of room for the camera and all it's extra equipment. Oh, and the built in trolley definitely gets a lot of use!

Re: DVX Case

The CineBag is really nice... and just to let folks know, has enough reinforcement to be stackable (I use one for audio, one for video). It's amazing what you can put in there... and all the pockets! The top surface even makes a nice field desk. The one thing would prefer is a top handle for navigating tight spaces, but the design precludes it. Anyway.. they're a bargain for the price. Definitely not officially for carry-on... but you may get through if you're willing to risk it...

Re: DVX Case

I use a soft tool case that you can get at Lowes or Home Depot for anywhere from about $20-50. The one I use is big enough that I can put the camera with an AT897 mic attached on the mic mount and still zip it up, and there are also lots of pockets to put the batteries and other accessories in. The best part is that the bag is pretty inconspicuous, and it also fits nicely in the overhead compartments on planes. I actually own a few of these as they make nice production bags as well, to throw in some cables, gels, filters, etc.

Just type in 'Tool Bag' at Home Depot's website (http://www.homedepot.com) and you will see some examples.
