hi, i just graduated film school and a friend was kind enough to give me his dvx 100, is there a boot camp dvd for me to immerse myself or just the book?. i'm one of those people that has to know all the ins and outs of the camera and won't sleep for days till i do.....please help:undecided

so are you planning on releasing a boot camp dvd for the dvx for those of us that haven't had the good fortune of getting an HVX? btw you rock!!!

ok! so i bought the dvx book and dvd. the book is pretty good but the dvd is unimpressive.. you definately need to publish the boot camp. i feel i could have gotten all the info on this web site. secondly, if anybody is on this website then they are pretty serious about filmmaking and therefore would pay whatever to get a dvd that is in depth to further their knowledge , there is the HVX boot camp dvd. why not the dvx?

I have an idea... why don't you learn the "in's and out's" of the DVX, do extensive research for a year or two, take the time to make a DVD (on your own dime), and sell it?

And then you may have the pleasure of coming to a discussion forum and, maybe, if you're really lucky, a kid fresh out of high school could tell you it's "unimpressive".

The DVX is still a great camera, but it is not a new camera by any means. Generally it does not make sense to write a book for old content.

Would anyone write a book explaining how to use Windows 98 today? NO. There are still people using Windows 98, but regardless, who would spend months and months writing a book or producing a dvd for Windows 98.

The DVX100 is still used a ton, more then windows 98 is, but the same applied in my mind.

That's kind of what I'm thinking. How much demand is there? I mean, we could totally do it, but it's a ton of work. If people want it, we could do it. But the business decision here is the return on investment -- does it make sense to develop a new disc for a massive but older market, or to stay with the smaller but emerging markets? Could go either way. So far I haven't thought that it made compelling sense to do a revamped DVX BootCamp DVD, but if people are really clamoring for it, we could get one out.

ok ryan! you may have just a little angst. all i'm saying is the book is great but the dvd for the dvx could have been better.that was not an insult to anybody just my opinion. i have seen the hvx dvd and i would have loved to have similar depth in the dvx dvd. obviously, there is still a huge user base for the dvx and barry does a bootcamp for the dvx so why not tape it like they did with the hvx? i think even a first run rollout of the dvd would cover the expense of production. just suggestion and btw i stand by my earlier comment the dvx dvd is "unimpressive", its 50 minutes of dvx advertisement. i like many people learn much better visually so the dvd would be great. Barry, you know your sh... so i hope no offense was taken by my comment on this and just this dvd.

There's only ever been one DVX BootCamp, and we decided to discontinue it because there wasn't enough interest.

A DVD along the lines of the HVX BootCamp DVDs is a lot of work, and it's more expensive than you think. We've talked about it; we've noodled the numbers, and it doesn't appear to be worth it. Not enough demand.

that's cool, thanks to all for you feedback. i'll enjoy the book for now till i can get the hvx, then we can really dook it out...lol

and barry does a bootcamp for the dvx so why not tape it like they did with the hvx?
That's not what we did at all. The HVX BootCamp DVD isn't just a live taping of a BootCamp. It's all the information in the HVX Book plus a whole lot more, and side-by-side examples and ... well, like David said, it's a lot of work.

I'm not opposed to doing a DVX BootCamp DVD, it just would have to make economic sense to put the effort into it. If lots of people want it I'd be glad to do it!

My daughter and I intend to use our DVXs a long time - even after we pick up one of the 150s, 170s or HVX200A. We will be the first in line (sorry lago70) if a DVD BootCamp DVD was produced.

So would I, but I don't think 4 or 5 purchases are going to outweigh the cost or the time involved. So I definitely can understand the argument.
