DVX as a VTR

I know that using your DVX as a capture device is not the best idea because it wears out the heads, but where does everyone stand on using the DVX as a VTR simply for moitor out (using firewire and the RCA or S video out for monitoring). All is does is keep the power on for long periods of time. I use the power adapter as opposed to the batteries. Is this "wearing down" the camera, keeping it on for long stretches, or no... Just thought I'd get everyone's opinion.

It's not a terrible thing though really nothing beats a proper editing deck for ingest and playback/monitoring. Your DVX and any potential professional client will love you for this. I recommend a DSR-11. Great deck and can be had for around $1400 new and less on eBay. These rock.

I'd been using the great sony gvd 1000 deck (with the screen -- works incredible well when shooting), but the deck went down so that's when I switched. Plan on going over to the P2 world soon so it's hard to justify investing in another dv deck, seeing as how dv tape is slowly going the way of audio tapes. Thanks...
