dvx alignment issues on playback

Hi All,
I am having problems when I playback footage from 2 dvx's.
I have used a JVC, Panasonic and a Sony playback machine. The Sony worked but the other 2 did not. The Sony is very much a Pro model, more so than the other 2 which are still quality machines.

Test footage from my Sony PD-150 has played back perfect on all 3 machines.

Is it possible the DVX is out of alignment? It plays back as if the heads are dirty and the image appears very Blocky and staggered. Looks terrible but the dvx footage plays back perfect on the dvx's always.

Thanks in advance
Solomon

Are you recording in LP or SP mode? Recording in LP can make it tough to play the footage on a machine other than the one that recorded it.

I agree, it would have to either be severely out of alignment to cause the issues you're describing or the tape was recorded in LP mode. If you like, you could send us a tape recorded in the DVX100's and we can run it through a reference deck and analyze it on our test equipment for you. It wouldn't take us long, no charge required unless we have to actually look at the camera eventually.

Andrew,
thanks for your reply,
unfortunately I am in New Zealand so I probably will need to sort this issue out locally.
I am absolutely positive I have not used Long Play.

I think I may have once heard a few months back that this problem is more common on DVX's than other dv cameras in the range. Have you had any experiences like this before?

Thanks
Solomon

Without seeing what kind of breakup your experiencing I can't really say. The only other thing that I can think of is major dirt build up in the lower drum. You will have to take it to your local repair facility to fix something like that. Keep us posted so that we know what happens.
