Hello-

I JUST picked up my new DVX100A 3 days ago and am VERY excited about playing with it. As a matter of fact, I am SO thrilled about this camera that I have been VERY patient and have fought the urge to even pop in a tape yet and blindly start recording because I want to know all about the camera…what settings do what, etc. So, I am going to do the bulk of my troubleshooting today. Set the camera in a basic KNOWN state, then tweak from there but only after I finish reading that God awful manual. That manual is dry. I think I’d rather stand in a long bank line that read that I think, but if it’ll help…

I am posting this thread because I have a few questions. I will post them separately because I’d like to make it easier to answer for those of you who have more knowledge over one subject over the other. But I truly appreciate ANY advice given. This website is a FANTASTIC resource and I really appreciate all of the advice I have already been given.

Steadicam JR??? Has any one used it? Why do most websites regarding these hint that they take a lot of practice? Will this piece of equipment help me to create a smooth dollying look if I want to walk from left to right if I prefer not to rely on my tripod? And finally, the Steadicam JR is about $550.00 WITH a monitor. Without a monitor it’s about $350.00. Can I rely on the DVX LCD or does the steadicam monitor yield a slightly different picture result thereby making the extra $200.00 dollar monitor purchase necessary??? Thank you SO much in advance for any and all of your input.
