dvx accessories for HVX

I have a little money that I should probably put elsewhere, but I'd love to buy some accessories for my camera. Thing is that I decided that I would wait to buy this stuff until I bought a HVX or other HD cam, but in the real world that will probably be at least 1 probably 2 years away.

So can 35mm adapters, rods, follow focuses, and matte boxes I buy for my dvx be used on an HVX? If yes, then its xmas early! If its a definite no, then there is no Santa Claus :(

Many things will not adapt. HVX has different filter size and different format probably makes matte boxes incompatable. I would not try to plan for a camera you might buy two years out. By then, the HVX may already be an old model.

Thanks for the info. Was the implication that I should just get the toys anyway? Or should I wait those two years to see what camera I actually end up with?

Same rule always applies. Only buy things when you need to buy them. If you just want toys, no rules apply except your budget. I can think of a 1000 toys to buy other than matteboxes and follow focus and... And none of them are camera specific.

lol ofcoarse. As far as my need for these "toys", thats something I've been arguing for a long time. And the truth is, I can do without all this stuff, just as everyone here can if they need to, but they sure could be helpful.

And I'd be very interested in hearing just of few of the "1000" toys you might buy that are not camera specific.

THANKS!

Well it always depends on what you already have and what you do with your camera.

Not necessarily in order...

A GOOD glidecam or steadicam unit and time to practice with it.
A couple of different size green screens or even build a green room.
A couple of classes in 3d animation
An m-audio Microtrack 24/96
More mics
A crane or similar unit
A new desktop editing machine
Upgrades to my laptop.
an HD editing monitor 24 inch or larger
A portable HD-ready production monitor or DV-rack.
A tiny consumer cam for fun use, maybe even the Sony HDV model.

Ah, yes, well I see. But yes most of that stuff I either have access to (crane, editing equipment) or don't have a real interest in (greenscreen, 3d)

So, while I'm still interested in everyone elses advice, I guess I'll continue doing research about what I can use on multiple cameras, but if it's something I'll use often I might as well buy it when I have the cash.

Anyone else?
