dvx A.A. users...

ok no BS, no random debates between posters, just simply reply to my questions...thanks:dankk2:

i own a dvx 100a. im doing a project and we need a second camera and we have decided on the dvx100b as a second camera, because price and overall relyability... we want 16:9 at a higher res than squeeze or letterbox so we are considering buying 2 anamorphic adaptors... is this a good choice? will our footage look the same for the most part. after this film, my counterparts are planning on moving towards commercials and braudcast w/ their new 100band AA. is that a good enough combo for that type of work? we dont want the hvx because why pay 6,000 bucks for a camera that will shoot 16:9 in SD, when u can get a 100b and AA for almost half the price in the same SD.

The B is a little lower on noise, but the difference isn't night and day - light it properly. The anamorphic adapter introduces some focusing issues etc, but footage will look just the same if you set up the cameras identically (same gamma curves and stuff).

I'd go for it. :)

i would shoot in 4x3 letterboxed, then use redgiants uprez, or another up rezzing program to do the trick.

This way it saves you on Focus issues, money issues, and your ready to go with what you have.

Yeah, you can get the same thing out of using the squeeze mode. A lot of people have had trouble getting accurate focus using the anamorphic adapter, but it does work beautifully once you get it right. Like PaPa's already said, RedGiant Software's Instant HD is a good option for SD users to get up to HD standards, plus it's cheap too.

Incorrect ... sorry.

DVX100b in squeeze = 300 lines of resolution. It's still a 4:3 chip folks. (same for 100 and 100A)

DVX100b or A or just plain 100 plus the Anamorphic Adaptor = 500 lines of resolution.

It's noticebly sharper.

HVX does 16X9 SD at 500 lines of resolution. Not sure if it will do it to tape or if tape is still 4:3 and you can only get the native 16X9 shooting to P2 or firestore.

The 16X9 in the DVX issue has been coverd many times in this forum.

Try the search feature.

Some older threads don't come up due to server changes but you can use google to search the forum and read older threads by includinhg DVXuser in your search.

key words would be
uprezz
uprezzing
16X9
DVX100
DVX100a
DVX100b
Anamorphic Adaptor
and so on...

ok

ok

ok, but i have just now heard of redgiants and it sounds too good to be true. i like post editing and all but i want my images to be the best they can organically and not faked. so is the anamorphic lense overall a very good buy?

Umm, what did I say that was incorrect? :lipsrseal

The B is lower on noise.
that anamorphic adaptor footage will look the same as 100B in squeeze.

squeeze = softest way to shoot widescreen
ananmorphic = sharpest way to shoot widescreen

again ....
squeeze = 300 lines or so rez
ananmorphic adaptir - 500 lines rez

if ALL you are saying is that the B is lower in noise .... I don't know about the noise issue enough to diagree with you. But your post seemed to say that a 100b in squeeze next to a 100A with the ananmorphic adaptor will look the same with the same camera settings and lighting, which is not true.

whats the difference between the anamorphic adaptor and the cantury 6 wideangle converter??? whats better?

century wide angle is just a wide angle lens in 4:3 ... so you will see more area at the same distance -- you know like a fisheye -- that's EXTREME wide angle ....

the anamorphic adapor changes the aspect ratio from 4:3 to 16:9

so totally different animals.

most people can't tell the difference in the upscaling in FCP and instant HD, but then again the upscaling in FCP is one of the better ones out there ... so for some other NLE's it might be a real quality jump.

If there is difference in the upsclaing in FCP and instant HD it seems to be minimal to me, but instant HD is configurable, so you can set levels for detail and antialiasing, etc.

My Instant HD has been very buggy on FCP and I have had lots of trouble getting it not to crash and to do exactly what I want.

the best upscaling method is still photozoom pro ... do a search there are several stickies ... its VERY time consuming and takes a long time to render however.

Oh, but then I didn't express myself clearly enough. :) What I meant was that the A and B with the adapter would look the same if set up properly, only that the B would have a tad less noise.

At this point, it would be the better buy for you since you've already got the DVX's ready to go. Just keep an eye on your focus and then everything will be smooth sailing from then on.

yes ... but neither would have any noise rto speak of really if the scene is lit well .. in my experience with the A noice is not a problem.
you'd only see an perceptible noise difference if not enough light is getting to the sensors or you have to gain up.
