dvx 100a or xl2?

relax ... everyone is trying to help :)

including Sharky. He's not that kind of cat to try and invalidate people's efforts to help. But what should he do if there's some erroneous statements in this thread? Maybe try to help the dude out by saying that he should do some more hands on research especially when sharkey is just another DVXuser like the rest of the posters here and his opinion would just be his opinion, not a definative answer. Also Sharkey might not feel 100% confident in rebutting some of the things he disagrees with.

I know that's how I feel, and that's why I've been icluding phrases like "pretty sure" and "I think" in my posts.

I probably should have included a smiley in my last post -- sorry about that -- wasn't saying you were out of line, but there are obviously some conflicting statements and confusion which if you read through the thread carefully you will notice.

So one more set of conflicting statements wouldn't do much good unless its from a definative source -- whew!

Wow, ok, I just noticed that people really took offense to what I said. My whole point is to not add to the chaos, but like I said, for the poster to hopefully get his hands on the camera himself. But if you all insist, here goes.

-XL2 does have both 24PN and 24PA shooting modes, ie 2:3 and 2:3:3:2 Pulldown, there is nothing faux or fake about it. I have used both the XL2 and DVX together on shoots, and they are frame for frame accurate in their 24P shooting modes.

-XL2 color really can be adjsuted to very closely look like that of the DVX, it just takes some know how, as the DVX is settup more pleasing right out of the box. I am not saying that I personally don't think the DVX looks better (I do) but it is really a matter of opinion as I have heard both sides epress them.

-The Original DVX has better "chips" than the newer versions. . . that's just utter hogwash, for lack of a better term. Personally, if I was buying a DVX right now unless I was really strapped for cash, the 100B wuold be the way to go. All three of the cameras look very much alike, but the 100A and B also have improved DSP, more cinegamma modes and my personaly favorite (peaking) yay. Seriously, one of the most underrated features of the 100A, i couldn't shoot without it.

-Oh, and I noticed a little quib about the 100 not having 24PA, indeed it does. I hope this does clear up some things. Not saying it to be rude, but in general this forum, me included, is very opinionated so I was just trying to point out that it is not always good to take everyones word for it, including mine :)

Jack, based on plenty of reading I respect Scharky's opinion. For everyone's sake (and this threads) I just thought it better that he be clear on what the inaccuracies were. No harm done. Now where's that cheers smiley...

or mine -- since I was off on like 50 things.

24pA on the original 100 too-- I thought that was the difference betwen that an the 100A, oh well.

But then I thought grilled cheese sandwiches were gorilla cheese sandwiches until 3rd grade :)
