DVX-100 for TV Framing

I was wondering how one frames the DVX-100 while shooting for TV. Does the frame in the LCD and the Viewfinder match exactly what one would output to TV? My concern is I have some shots with a wide angle lens where the mic was not visible in LCD monitor, but is visible in Final Cut Pro. If there are framing specifications, then I’m worried about head to toe shots which I framed very tight. Any information about this issue would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

Re: DVX-100 for TV Framing

I am not sure if all cameras are calibrated exactly the same. ( In the film world we tested for this alot) But on mine the LCD is a bit overscanned(I see more than a TV would). What I did was I set up my camera to my computer, went into FCP capture program and turned on title safe. It shows the tv frame, and as you guessed it title safe. I set up gaphic points for the corners, and then sent that footage out to my camera. Then(this is the arts and crafts part) I bought some of those LCD screen protectors, and marked on it the points from FCP. Connected the dots and you havea pretty precise Rack leader. Hope that helps.

Generally speaking, if it's not visible in the LCD screen, then it's not going to be visible on a TV. In FCP, you're seeing the whole frame, whereas the LCD screen doesn't show you quite all of it.

It, of course, depends on the overscan of the TV.

Best way to shoot when worried about this is with a line out to a 4:3 monitor.
