DVX 100 and Redrock M2 questions

Hi guys, I'm a newbee, and im going to get a redrock adapter for my dvx100b. Can you tell me what parts do i have to get to attach my dvx to the adapter? Some step down ring? beacuse some sellers give you only adapter and nothing else with it.

And I need some advice also.
Im going to buy a shoulder mount (without rodes 230$), mattebox (i saw them for 230$), basic light, some shotgun mike (probably rode, ebay - 150$), and flycam 5000. I already bought a 7" monitor with a shoe mount though I would need a special mount for a monitor that gets attached to rode system, saw them for 36$. I dont want a flip for my redrock, i bought the monitor so i can flip the view without it.

What do you think about this kit?

Is the rode system long enough to put the adapter with 50mm lens, the handhelds with shoulder mount and mattebox?

I want to spend about 2k for this, max 2500.

I would be very gratefull for any advice.

I would just take that $2000 and buy a 7D with some lenses. A much lighter setup and you'll have much less trouble. I'm assuming you're talking about the original M2 adapter and not the Encore here, because the original M2 just wasn't a very well made adapter. It's soft, it's finicky to set up, loses a ton of light and it's completely cumbersome. Trying to use it with a DVX100 where there's no focus assist on the LCD and no way to plug a high-res monitor in and you're just asking for out of focus footage.

hmm, i like this idea, but a few things scares me.

1.editing - i got phenom amd for two years now but i never edited hd on it. is it good enough?

2.next thing is the picture... i love panasonics progressive mode with 35mm adapter the picture is beautiful, picture from canon looks different. do you have any good example (youtube, etc) that brings this look from canon 7d?

3. price with good lenses is around 2k, no flycam, shoulder mount, etc.

Im thinking about it since i got my dvx100 (switching to dslr and hd), but still havent found any good option. I remember when people said - dont buy dvx100, get Sony FX1, its hd and everything. Now im happy i didnt do it, i dont like that plastic kind of looking picture.

What i really like is the size of this equipment and pure digital form, no tapes, just camera and lenses.

Sorry if my language is not good, my native is polish ;)

You say that encore is better? how to differ one from another?
I also found a movie with the jello effect while panning quickly on canons cameras, though the picture is beautifull, sharp and colours are amazing. DVX just bring with its sd quality some soft picture that i like. sooner or later i will buy this canon. now im so confused!!! :)

I have exactly that same set up, the RedRock M2 with my DVX100b. I purchased it recently and I must say that it has been so much fun shooting with it so far. I love it.

As far as attaching things to the camera, this is what I have set up - not totally sure if it's right by "normal" setup standards, but it seems to work for me.

Starting from camera: Camera + 72mm achromat + 72mm-55mm stepdown ring + 55mm coupler + 55mm spacer + 55mm uv filter + RR M2 + Nikon Mount + Nikon Glass.

Mounted on Cavision rails.

The encore is better because it loses less light - I think half a stop less, to be more exact. I'm pretty sure this is it, though.

If you have more questions, you can check out the Red Rock forum: http://www.redrockmicro.com/forum/. It should answer at least some questions, but personally I found the site a bit hard to navigate (certainly not as easy nor as frequently posted as DVXuser).

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Milos
