DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Man, i've been in the States for almost two weeks and i haven't been able to find a place that sells the dvx100ae. I was hoping to take it home to the Netherlands with me (cheaper and not VAT either) in another week or so, but it looks like it's not going to happen. Not at EVS, not at B&H, not at a bunch of other places. It looks like it just isn't going to happen. Any one know what to do...?

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Hi Brently
i did purchase the DVX100ae in globalmediapro.
But i can´t tell you nothin yet. I just made the bank transfer and i am waiting for the camcorder. They say it will be next monday.
So far everything was fine.

I was looking for the camera long time. There is no much places to choose. Anyway I think globalmediapro is the best place to go. They give you a two years mack warranty for free. The price is okay.
I ll tell you more whenever the shopping is complete.

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Regardless of the country you purchase the PAL version, it is ususally shipped from Singapore. All models, whether NTSC or PAL, are made in Japan. For instance I got my 100AE from Expandore, within 10 days of relasing the payment. And they have a good service. I dont know how much convenient it is for the folks in the US, but it does not make any difference where did u get it from, as long as u can get it ;). In any case you have to pay few hundred more bux for enjoying the PAL version.

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Seeing we live in PAL land we don't really have a choice.

Thanks Travis, Let us know how you go.

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Hejsan, Aejaz!

How much did you pay for your camera?
Handling and shipping?
Taxes and customs?
VAT of course according to your own country.
What about warranty. Does Panasonic have an international warranty so that you can f.ex. leave your camera in Sweden for warranty service or repair?

Best regards

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

I think the best place for you to get some answers is on expandore's web site: Click Here

And then, just click on "our e-shop" (top right corner)

And here you go... DVX100-DVX100A-DVX100AE-DVX100E and all the required accessories... Pretty reasonable prices I think, especially for us thanks to the sinking US dollar. ;D

But, as every happy ::) EU citizen, you have to add taxes and VAT (around 25% total).

And yes, you can get from them an expanded international 2 years warranty (Mack) for a small additional fee of 120$. Strongly recommended! Pretty easy: you don't even have to ship your camcorder back to Singapore. Just send it to the nearest Panasonic service center, pay the bill and send it to Mack: they're gonna pay pay you back. They also seem to be quite serious BTW.

Feedback I got so far from www.repaire.net about expandore customer's service is outstanding. Shipping typically goes much faster than what they are officially claiming. 8)

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Agree. Arkham is right. In fact, Arkham, do u have any first hand info about the way Mack works here in europe as u described. I have still not got to the point of calling them and confirming it. but if it is possible it would be great.

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

I am not sure to understand your question. Do I have first hand information about how "Mack" works in Europe?

Yes I do: I just went to their web site

Now, I guess you probably would like to know if I personnaly know someone who ever used their services in Europe so far? If that is what you want me to answer, the answer is "no". The people I know (from a famous french DV forum) simply bought their DVX through expandore with the Mack warranty, but never had any problem with their camcorders so far.  ;D

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

In fact I was wondering about the option of getting the camera repaired (off course for manufacturing faults only) from a nearby panasonic service centre and Mack reimbursing the money. Is that stated in the website...somewehere? Because i thought if there is some problem during the warranty period the camera has to be sent to the authorised dealer, specified in ur Warranty. For instance mine in in NJ, US. The 'catch' is perhaps that the 'nearest' panasonic service station recommended by MACK for me, for instance, is in the New jercy. Can u send it somewhere within Europe.

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Hi Juhela

I paid 35,000SEK for the Camera, additional big battery, Tripod TH65, set of three filters, 2 years extended mack warranty, freight and insurance. Add 25% tax too.

I have given some details about the MACK above, in another post to ths trhead. Though not very ideal, but I think that is the BEST you can have in this situation. Panasonic does not give any international manufature's warrranty for this product...Strangely enough...ARE They too sure of it :D

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

There is no "catch". This is what Mack wrote on their "international repair" web page (link in my previous post):

Repairs
International Service Center

If you are outside the United States and need to have your equipment serviced under your Mack Camera Extended warranty, please follow these instructions for obtaining service:

- Repairs must be completed at a manufacturer authorized service center in your area.

Cheers,

Arkham

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Thanx Arkham

That is really good to know

In fact it had skipped my eyes. I will find who is the authorised dealer near my area.

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

Thank you both Aejaz and Arkham for your replys :)!

Heat is on and my order seems to be quite imminent :P.
An additional question to Aejaz.
Expandore seems to be now also my decision. To get a functional equipment at the same order, I´d like to ask you:
1. Are you happy with those extras you purchased, i.e. filter set, that specific tripod and a large battery?
2. What other extras would you by now order?
I understand that we obviously have different interests in videography, but I´d like to know anyhow. You see, we do not have these things round the corner in my town.

Sincerely
JJ

Re: DVX 100 A PAL PURCHASE.

hi Juhela

I am obviously very satisfied with the additional accessories. Specially the TH650 tripod. I think for its price (as a bundled pakage with the camera in Expandore), it is a very useful and stable...and I would say a must-have.. tool with the DVX. the three filter set contains an ultraviolet filter, a polariser and a 1/8 ND filter. The last filter is not really requitred as the camera has its inbuilt 1/8 and 1/64 filters. but this 1/8 filter gives you an additional middle combination for appropriate occaisons. The camera already has in its standard accessories a 5.4h battery, which works for 3.5 hours or so in continuous recording. However an additional 5.4h battery gives you a veryyyyyyyyy relaxed mind, espcecially while on visits, which I undertake quite often.

My next choice accessories would be a soft camera bag and the anamorphic lens. Specially without the latter the full potential of the camera remains underutilised.

I hope my experience would be of any help to you in ur buying decision.
