DvRigPro vs DV MultiRig Pro

The DvRigPro and DvRigProHD are shoulder camera supports that use back weight for balancing
the camera. the DvRigs are very robust and allow very stable camera shoots by adding weight(Mass)to hand held cameras.

In the HD model the camera can be mounted either on the front rail, like with the DvRigPro. or on the side rail further back over the shoulder.

The MultiRigPro. is a very light weight, compact, foldable and versatile camera support. It can be used as a conventional shoulder support or as a stabilizer for walking shoots and for more dynamic camera moves.

Both camera supports are supplied with a shock absorbing spring loaded support pod to help suppress body moves and carry
the camera load. The use of the support pod totally eliminates stress fatigue and all other discomforts.

Great. Do you have any recommendations and a link to B&H for more info about the best zoom/rec rocker to use with it? I want a zoom/rec rocker that also controls IRIS and ideally focus as well, if possible - so... zoom, rec, iris, focus... that plugs into the HVX200, and mounts onto the rig...

Any suggestions?

There are few brands for remotes, I suggest that you search this forum for opinions.
Since the DvRigProHD and the MultiRig in shoulder brace are usually used with the support pod, it is not a problem to let go of one grip to adjust focus / iris rings on the lens.
so I suggest trying first before buying expensive focus remotes.

this is true. my bebob focus remote is great but i don't really use it with the multirig. i lean my hand on the left arm and operate the focus ring with no difficulty

OK, so I will wait on the zoom rocker. I will get that padded support belt.

I see with the MultiRig you also recommend the Camera QR mount and the tripod docking bracket - do you have a link to these? what the heck are they and why might I want them?

Anything else you'd recommend getting with my order? I'm thinking of placing this week. I want to make sure I am set up. The "support pod" is included with the DV MultiRig Pro - right?

If I ordered tonight or tomorrow, would it be here by this weekend? I live on the West Coast.

The Tripod docking bracket is for quick attaching the rig with the camera on it to any tripod, this is for super fast move from hand held to tripod and back. It will be ready next week and we will have photos in the site in a day or two.

The Camera QR mount is a sliding QR assembly to slide the camera
to the rig. the standard mount is a Manfrotto 537. A Manfrotto 577
can also be ordered to match Manfrotto/ Bogen 501 / 503 head if you have one.

Yes, the support pod is included with the MultiRigPro.

We usually ship next day by UPS. delivery to the west coast is 2-3 days.

Great - so I don't need the Camera QR mount if I get a Tripod Docking bracket?

If so, I will order once the Tripod Docking Bracket is ready...

So what does the DvRigPro do *better* than the MultiRigPro? Is it more stable? Or what? I still don't get why someone would buy the DvRigPro *instead of* the MultiRig Pro??

As Danny said, the DvRig line are purely shoulder mounts and are meant to perform great as shoulder mounts.

The multirig... well it's in the title... It's a multipurpose stabilizer, can be used as a shoulder mount, a handheld stabilizer, a pseudo steady cam, etc, etc, etc. Plus, it's more compact and light weight...

If you want a great shoulder mount, then you should probably look towards one of the dvrig pro's... If you want a jack of all trades, then look at the multirig.

You can easily use the multirig with one hand when using the support pod in shoulder mount mode, as I'm sure you can with the dvrig pro and pro hd as well. Basically, you make your handheld into a stable shoulder mount camera and you can have a free hand to operate focus and zoom rings, etc.

DvRigProHD, I believe has stronger springs in the support pod and has more load bearing capacity, and gives more freedom in its setup for using 35mm adapter setups and heavier camers, etc than the multirig pro will... Though, if you order stronger springs for the support pod on the multirig and attach your camera first to a rod setup that will allow you to adjust where the camera sits, you can certainly use the multirig w/ a 35 adapter setup or the like... It's just not optimal for that... If you want that setup in a shoulder mount, definitely the dvrig pro hd is the best way to go between those options.

The short answer... the DvRigPro is a dedicated shoulder mount that will allow greatest options and useability for someone looking for a solid, durable shoulder mount system. The multirig can be a great shoulder mount system, but that's not it's sole purpose and as such it will have some limitations in that configuration as compared to the DvRig Pro HD, for example. It's meant to be a multipurpose. That said... I own a multirig pro and use it almost exclusively in shoulder mount position... but, there's always a time when I'm shooting with it that it will come off of my shoulder and go into another configuration. And, though I've done a little testing with it in shoulder mount configuration with stronger springs w/ a 35 adapter setup, and know it will work, it's obvious that the dv rig pro HD is the way to go for that.

Later,
Jason

Some people don't care about all the "tricks" you can do with the Multi, All they want is very stable shoulder shoots. Some are used to shoulder cameras they like and are used to the heavy "feel" on the shoulder and will never use a handheld DV/HDV camera unless its on a heavy rig. In general, Mass = Stability. not comfort or versatility
just stability.

Go visit any of our dealers and try for yourself.

Jason - thanks for the fantastic explanation.

I placed my order for the MultiRig + padded velcro belt today... can't wait to try this thing out!
