DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Hi All,

I quick question about the DVRig Pro Plate. According to the review article, it uses a standard Bogen QR Plate. Is the the same plate that the Bogen/Manphroto 503 head uses? Or in other words, if I mount the 100A to the DVRig plate, will this also work with the 503 head (and vise-versa)? This sounds much better than buying the DVRig Accessory and mounting the whole shoulder support to the tripod.

Thanks,
Donny

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

No it's not the same plate that the 503 uses. There is a post here somewhere that explains what you need to fix it. I think another adaptor is needed.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Danny-

A salesperson said that this would be a better fit for the 503 head. What do you think? He said the specs seemed to match it better. It is $49 !!! and you can't buy just the adapter...

bogen/manfrotto 577

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=241139&is=REG

I just checked and this is also the SAME QR adapter I have for a monopod.

would this work also, is it better than the one you suggested earlier?

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Sorry no.

Only the 357 Manfroto will work.

The 577 system is nerrower, The plate is too short for canging LCD / Veiw finder positions by just sliding, And you can only slide camera from one end.

Trust me.

(US bogen 3273)

yah, I guess YOU should know :)

thanks- I'm looking forward to giving it a try at the WEVA expo.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

yes you need the same QR plate that the 503 uses and modify the device on the DVrig. the DVrig has a ENG plate for some odd reason, but it wont work with the heads/qr that 80% of prosumer camera owners use (501,503)

So buy the little 503 assembly, then take off the dvrig assembly and put the new 503 assembly on the dvrig.. then you can go from the DVrig to the tripod lickety split.

And if anyone is looking just for the camera plates, you cant get em from Bogen seperate from the QR/heads, but Sunpak copied thier mold and you can buy those for about $5.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Sorry Jarred, I disagree with you on the plate issue.

Most users do need the longer travel of the 357 system for LCD/EVF position change and the front and rear camera inserting option.

We are offering the 357 bases for 25 usd.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Sorry Danny... I completely disagree with you. (no offence) mind you for DVXusers that is. The vast majority of users with the DVX that use Bogen heads have the 501 and 503... For you to say we cant use our head plates cause they are short... well is incorrect, Specially since Bogen does make the 501/503 QR plate in a long version. (501pLong), so your argument doesnt really apply. If you could just get those long plates you would be cooking.

It is what it is though, and its one little screw to change QR plates so it shouldnt be a big deal, all i know is I took an hour out of my day to switch it to the 503 assembly.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

If anyone is going to add anything else, please use more precise terminology. I think we all have it mixed up and there is some confusion.

"Quick Release Adapter-Plate" is the part that goes on the bottom??

The "plate" is the part that screws in the bottom of the camera??

http://db.manfrotto.com/product/templates/templates.php3?sectionid=100&itemid=318

well, that probably doesn't clear anything up, but I do think people are writing terms and they are being misinterpreted.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Yes Pooh sorry for confusing you. The link you posted to is a QR assembly with plate, the assembly is the bottom part, the plate is what screws into the camera. The 357 you are looking at is what comes with the DVrig.

This is the plate that comes with the 501/503 heads

http://db.manfrotto.com/product/templates/templates.php3?sectionid=98&itemid=680

Now you can get the 501plong version of the above plate so its long so as Danny mentioned, you can move it back and forth. Which is great of course.

All this confusion is only important if you use the 501 or 503 heads, if not the normal plate that comes with the Dvrig is fine.

Of course, you can buy the 357 assembly, and screw that to the top of the tripod plate, (501, 503 or any other head plate) and you basically get the same results.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Jarred and all other DvRig fans,

We tried to change to the 501/503 compatible QR systems, But had delays in getting the quantities we need from Manfrotto.

I insisted on a longer plate but it turned out that
those are machine made and not molded so the cost is too high.

As soon as our stock of 357 QR assemblies will be sold, We will
go for the narrower plates and bases. We will make our own plates to keep the cost lower.

Meanwhile, and as another option, we will offer reduced price models with no QR systems. Just a plate with few 1/4" holes. This way users would be able to mount their favorite QR sets or directly mount the camera with a nice "tool free" 1/4" screw with knob.

Thank you all.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Thanks for asking for the clarification Pooh and thanks for providing it Jarred and Danny.

Now I just have to get that thingama-doogy and mount it on that thingamabob. Just kidding, thanks guys.

Re: DVRig QR Plate Compatability

Cool Thanks Danny! I knew there was a better reason for not using them.
