DVRack on a MacBook Pro/BootCamp?

A second post for the Newbie. I have done a search. Found one or two post that indicate to others that if you want to run DVRack on a Mac you should doit in Bootcamp Along with other things I have bought in the past few weeks is a MacBookPro 17" ,for post purposes mostly. I Dl'd the demo for DVRack a while ago and tried installing it with my 10 day trial today. I had also contacted the folks at Serious Magic about a month ago to ask about doing this and they responded that they don't support DVRack on a MacBook Pro. That was it. They said maybe down the road.
Has anyone here had any experience with this? Is there a workaround to get it to run?
Thanks!

I attempted to download the demo and followed instructions to the letter only to have it tell me that the time limit has expired. There was no help from the company, in fact they told me it was all my fault. I didn't even turn on or off any lights in the room while attempting to download the Demo.

What a waste of time and effort. I would stay away if I were you.

Brian,

I was also recently told by Serious Magic that "officially" they did not support running running it in bootcamp on a Macbook Pro, but that "UNofficially", it runs just fine.

I was also told that I could also run it on Windows OS laptop if I was going to record to disk, and I could send that to my Mac for input to FCE HD. When I asked how to do that, I was politely told that they weren't Mac literate.

I've enough experience in the "old days" in trying to shuttle from windows to mac that I decided that no matter how easy someone tells you it is, it never really is.

I do realize that many things have changed and that eventhough Apple says the new OSX allows the Mac to be on a network and share files with Windows platforms, I wouldn't bet the price of the DV rack software just to trailblaze.

The way I think is: If really does run fine then why doesn't Serious Magic support it? It could well be that not only don't they have Mac knowledge on staff, but that they think the market is not just big enough in Mac Land to support the investement.

OR, they might not want to get in Mr. Bill's cross hairs.

I'd like nothing better than to have DV rack (or something like it) running on a Mac book Pro, but I'm gonna wait 'til it resolves.

C'mon man, you and me both know that a large portion of people on this site as well as just people in general who do video work use macs. I couldn't imagine them not making it because there isn't enough people to support the investment.

From what I've heard they can't just port it over to the mac because it's all made using Direct X. Something I'm pretty sure OS X doesn't support because it's strictly a microsoft thing.

Personally though, I'm waiting for redrock revolution. It looks like it should be great and will run on PC and Mac. For the time being though just running FCP with the camera hooked up to it works fine for tapeless recording and getting something close to a preview monitor.

Yep, yep. Why you would write such a program using DX is beyond me though... OpenGL is definitely the way to go for this sort of thing. Portable and flexible.
