I have bought this DVI (m) to HD component (f)

If you can't read the inputs there is
480i
480p
540p
720p
1080i
16:9

But can't get signal out of it. I have tried to just switch the switches but I can't get a signal from my computer to the HD component inputs on an HDTV.

Tips on getting it to work?

Not remotely familiar with this device, but in the 'olden' days where one used an adapter, say for 'macs', to go to a non-mac monitor, there were similar devices with switches, but I believe one had to 'power' up the system, with the adapter and monitor installed and powered for the software to detect the presence of the display.

I don't know if you would need to do a 'find displays' operation, or have to power on your computer, having set things up first.

That... or the device is broken...

I've seen this adapter on Monoprice. Did you read the rather important text in red in the description?

"Note: This adapter only work with the following ATI Video Cards.
Compatible video cards include: ATI ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 8500, 8500DV, RADEON
9500, 9550, 9600, 9700 & 9800 series of video cards."

If it's one of those cards, then I'm not sure what the problem could be. Otherwise, that's your problem.

That could be my problem. Is there an adapter like this that will work on a more universal basis? Should I stick to a DVI - HDMI adapter?
