DVDSP DVD not working on an ibook

I created a DVD using DVDSP with one main menu and 2 title screens. I've burned a DVD straight from DVDSP, and done a build and burned out of Toast. The DVDs work on everything (pc, pc laptop, imac G5, G3 tower, G5 tower, dvd player, mac book pro)- EXCEPT an ibook. When I play it on the ibook it works, but my title background and menu background does not show up. Has anyone ever experienced this before?? Advice?

I have had some DVDs do some strange things on a pc before. I never figured out why. You could try testing different brands of DVDs on the ibook.

DVD compatibility issues have always been a problem for me using various different Macs.

First things first: you should always use a high quality medium for sending discs around. Verbatium discs are the lowest quality discs you should use. Try searching for Taiyo Yuden DVD+r.

DVD+R are superior for long term storage, but have some (Very limited) compatibility issues. Book-type setting fixes this issue, but this is nearly impossible to do on a Mac (because of software support).

Second thing to remember is that DVD lasers start decaying after 24-36 months. Is your Burner over 36 months old? You'll want to try burning at lower than max speeds. (Lowest speed in fact is usually the best). The reason is that the laser doesn't have the intensity that it had when it left the factory, and the pits being etched into the disc aren't as deep as they should be. Some Drives will look at these discs and think there is no data on them.

Another thing to remember, is that I've had perfectly well burned discs come out of DVDSP on G5 macs (not sure if this affects Intels) and they would not read on that computer ever again.

Always test on a stand-alone player hooked up to a TV.
