Dvd's with DSP 3.0

Just filmed a television show with the Dvx100 and a 100a, which came up very nice. The 24p gave the show a different feel compared to its Betacam brothers. I authored mulitple copies of it in DSP 3.0 for my clients to promote the show, and unfortunately, the discs wouldn't play on a few set top dvd boxes. I thought it might have been a bad disc, so I double checked all of the copies and each one wouldn't work on these paticular boxes. One was a Magnavox, the other was a newer Panasonic. Now the Magnavox looked like it was a few years old, but the Panasonic was a new model recently purchased at Best Buy. Needless to say it was a little embarassing for me, since there was nothing I could do about the problem except look confused and answer with a big "I dunno".

Has anyone else had similar problems authoring Dvd's with DSP, or any other application?

you missed the most important bit of info in order to get help trouble shooting... what brand of DVDs were they?

I use the panasonic 4x DVD-R with ink jet printable coatings.
They have been very reliable on comercial DVD players.
I have a friend that uses them for mass reproduction, and he has never had one reported to fail (thousands have gone out to various clients).

I use Apple 4x Dvd-R and Sony 4x Dvd-R. I tried using some Memorex Dvd-R 2x a while ago but had lots of problems getting the computer to burn them, and they glitched quite a bit in my set top box.

I've done some more research and I guess it all depends on what you include on the disc and which set top dvd players you put them in. Some Dvd players don't like layered menus, some don't like the higher bit rate discs (over 6), etc, etc. There were a bunch of issues I found with Dvd authoring software.

I guess a lot of professional post houses use a hardware based system called Sonic to make universaly compatible discs. For $300 DSP is still a really good choice though.

Your bit rate would definitly be a major fcator in the issues you are having. Check out the apple forum they have extensive posts on best quality and how to maximize bit rate without driving the DVD players crazy.
