I render out my DVD's to 16x9 and I crop that to 2.35. When I view my DVD's on my TV the black bar area is actually two different shades of black. Is there anyway to make this ONE shade of black? It looks a lot more professional with a single shade of black on the top and bottom.

1. I use Sony Vegas Pro and Render to DVDA

Did you use a crop or a mask to make it 2.35:1? Knowing which you did will let us know what you need to do to fix it.

Basically, your bars are too black; the DVD player's bars on a 4:3 TV aren't as black. Hence, the two-tone.

OK. Create a new video track, UNDER all of the other video tracks. Right-click on the track; choose Fade Colors, then choose Bottom. Change the R, G, and B values to 16, 16, 16.

Right-click on the track again; choose Insert/Remove Envelopes>Fade to color. Then, grab the little node on the envelope and drag it all the way to the bottom.

Render the video again.

This will make the black bars in your video match the black bars generated by the DVD player to letterbox your footage on a 4:3 TV, so it should then be a uniform color.

CAUTION: if you have any color FX applied to the global project, it will affect this. Do you? If so, there will be another step involved.

OK. Then create a new project, same settings as your original. Create two video tracks. On the lower one, do what I said above. On the upper one, bring in your porject's VEG file as a nested project.
