DVDA 3 vs. Adobe Encore 1.5

Right, so after my ranting little sob in the other post, I'm getting ready to lay out a menu on a DVD project for a client.

I learned authoring on DVDA & LOVE it's ease of use, and I was able to put together some pretty nice DVD's. But, since my new system only has a dual layer burner, and not a single, I've been unable to use my DVDA. I had to go out & purchase Adobe's Encore, which I'm still trying to figure a lot of it out, though I can do the basics (couldn't figure out Ulead's).

However, is DVDA 3 supposed to be available for purchase next week? Will it also support Photoshop layers the way Vegas 6 is supposed to, and Encore 1.5 already does? IF it will work on my burner, and IF it will support Photoshop layers, then I'll start working on the menu under DVDA2, with the intention of importing it into DVDA3 next week & burning from their, or out to a DLT for mass replication.

Otherwise, I'd better just get to work on it in Encore, though I think I could deliver better results (possibly) in DVDA3.

Thanks HunterG, I didn't ... from the list of new things added, I only saw it specify layers for Vegas 6. I've litterally been holding out on the design work, hoping it did.

You're right ... it DOES burn single layer, but DVDA2 won't recognize the burner as even being there ... so, to do anything I've had to import over to Encore 1.5 & author from there. I'm going to buy my Vegas 6 & DVDA 3 this week & it hopefully won't be an issue anymore.

encore uses photoshop files for its menu system.. so you can use any .psd and edit its layers right in encore. or you can right click it and it will let you open it in photoshop, and then automatically update it with changes to encore.. it also lets you right click and edit a .psd menu in AE to create a motion menu and then update it back to encore.. so encore doesnt just "work with" or support photoshop layers. ..it actually naitively uses the photoshop .psd file format and functionality for all its menu or overlay functions as a sort of light version of photoshop.

its really nice being so integrated since AE and photoshop are both adobe products. Encore is basically built around them.. as well as PPRO for importing timelines ans such.

.. ive never used DVD archetect but im sure its great as well. ..im just saying that as far as photoshop compatability ..photoshop is a part of encore and visa versa.

Tried that last night ... now online with Tech support as the demo keeps locking up/crashing when trying to burn the Sony provided demo file from their website. At this point, I can't even tell if it'll recognize the drive, as it won't even get to that point. Simply click next, and it has an exception.
