I've searched the forum but can't find any info on this problem. I'm using FCP and DVD Studio Pro to burn DVDs on my Powerbook G4. When played on some DVD players the video stops or freezes for a few seconds at random in the middle of playing the video. I've had the exact same problem when creating video and burning DVDs on my VAIO PC with Adobe Premiere. Does anybody have any idea what's going on? This is getting really frustrating! Thanks.

1) So it only happens on some DVD players? Other DVD players will play the discs from beginning to end flawlessly?
2) Is it happening at the exact same spot each time or is it happening a little more randomly? Like if you watched the disc twice, from start to end, on the same DVD player, would the stutter occur at the exact same frame or not?
3) Not sure it'll make much of a difference but I'll ask, 29.97 or 24p?

1) Yes, plays fine on some DVD players, especially on computer.
2) Yes, it does seem to happen at the same spots repeatedly on the same DVD player.
3) Just plain old 29.97.
I should also mention that it seems to happen more on higher speed DVDs. When I burn on old cheap COMP USA 4X DVD, no problem. But they don't carry them anymore. When I burn on newer 16X DVD (lately, I tried Memorex 16X and 8X) I have more of the freeze up problems. Could it be a problem of a slow 4X burner trying to burn onto 16X DVDs?

Its not the slow 4x burner trying to burn onto the 16x discs, no. The burner will be limited to recording at 4x which is a pretty stable, if slow, burn speed. If you had actually burned at a higher speed that may have been something to consider (burning at a slower speed). Since that's not the case, then perhaps it just simply is the brand of discs. DVD-R's and stand alone DVD players don't always mix. They never have and well never really will. That's why you never see a store bought DVD-ROM w/ a purple undercoating. Those are all professional pressed and replicated.
So what can you do? Try a different brand of DVD-Rs. I would recommend Tao-Yuden first and foremost. Yes they'll be a few cents more expensive but they are pretty darn solid in my experience. There is also Ridata (aka Ritek). I find them to be a decent alternative to the TY's. And then for more accessible, mass stream choice, I guess I'd say try Verbatim. I like their Dual Layer DVD+Rs. Used to only use them for CD-R's and never failed me. Haven't used their DVD-Rs though as I've been mainly a Ridata or TY guy there. Good luck.
