DVD stutter

Anyone know why a FCP export, burned to DVD would stutter when played back on a TV?

I have never had this problem before, but a movie I just finished looks fine in FCP, but stutters like crazy on the burned DVD.

I've tried exporting both as QT and via compressor. But stutter is bad in both.

I also tried different brands of media, but no help.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

(Note this in not pan strobbing... it's something related to the processes of exporting from FCP to a DVD.)

Thanks -

Re: DVD stutter

your bit rate may be to high. what program did you encode with? compressor will sometimes throw some bitrate spikes in there

Re: DVD stutter

Also, are you sure you're setting the fields correctly on your timeline settings? (odd or even). Unless you're doing a progressive scan dvd this could be a potential source of your problem.

Re: DVD stutter

I used the compressor that comes bundled with FCP HD.

When I check the item properties of individual clips field dominance is "not set."

The footage was 24P (not advanced mode) and edited in the standard settings for NTSC that FCP uses.

The timeline settings are:

Frame Size: 720 x 480 Pixels
Editing Timebase: 29.97 fps
Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV
Anamorphic 16:9: Off
Video Processing: YUV allowed (8-bit)
White Point: White

Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
Millions of Colors (24 bit)
No Data Rate Limit
No Keyframes Set
Quality: 100

Audio Settings:
16-bit 48.000 kHz Stereo

Any ideas?

Re: DVD stutter

I solved the problem!

Turns out that Toast was corrupted. I used a different burning app, and all is well.

Thanks for the help.

How did you narrow it down to toast? And what did was the replacement burning app? (I dont want to run into the same problem later on lol)

Re: DVD stutter

I have the same problem,
I was about to post a thread.

I'm also using Toast...

What should I use instead?

Re: DVD stutter

Depends on how much you want to spend, but DVD Studio Pro is incredible. I love it. I began using it just for basic stuff and it totally opened up some creative ideas to me as far as ways to make my movies more interactive and draw people in.
