Hey guys i need your help on this one. I want to put basically 6 hours of video on one dvd if possible. I know i can do it on a vcr/dvd burner that i have, it just compresses the video to a lower quality. Im wondering if I can do this in dvd studio pro. I think i read something about a lower bit rate i just dont comprehend though. Help Please

You can lower the bit rate really low to like 3mbps , but even then it will probably have to be on a Dual Layer DVD-R (which are only like a dollar a piece now-a-days) best bet.

6 hours on one DVD? Boy, you're asking for trouble. I've never seen 6 hours on any DVD before.

A bit rate of 3 won't even get 6 hours on a dual layer.

My advice, as a DVDSP trainer, break it up to three disks. Cause if you lower the bit rate too much, it'll be so horrible it'll be unwatchable.

You can get 6 hours onto a DVD. I've seen 10 hours even. Only 1 catch is that the footage will look like you filmed Lego. What I mean by that it is incredibly pixelated (blocky) and horrible looking. I've never done it with DVDSP/Compressor though. Considering how long it takes to compress, I'd never want to lock up the system that long for something that is going to look bad in the end. I'd go to a stand alone recorder to accomplish such. Not to say the quality would be at all better, likely worse actually, but at least it wouldn't tie up your system.

However, if you will be controlling the playback of the disc, you could author it out a HD DVD or Blu-Ray recorder and keep the quality. The catch there though, no one owns those players so you would need to lug a player over to where ever you wanted to screen it. One of those, with SD footage, I would think could hold up okay for quite an extended time length.

cheers.
