DVD Scripting in Architect 4.5 Pro

Norm Sanders

Script Wrangler
I'm lost here, and need some guidance. I'm finishing up the special features, etc. for the BERLIN DVD, and need some help on how to set up a DVD script for the Audio set up.

I've got three different subtitle tracks (French, German, and English), as well as three different audio tracks (5.1 Dolby Digital, Stereo, and then a commentary track).

I'm assuming I need to use scripts so that people can go to this menu, select what they want to start the film with, and then it'll go from there. Problem is, I have NO idea how to write these scripts, and the Self Help section of the program isn't really giving me much help either ... unless perhaps if I already knew about scripting, etc.

Ideas?

Norm,

No scripting required - just need to know what settings to configure.

Assuming you've already rendered out your audio tracks and placed them in the project?

In your track header scratch pad, label the audio tracks as you have mentioned - this will help in the track selection process.

On your Main Menu page, select - Insert - Submenu - this will be the page that you click on that takes you to your Options / Audio Setup page (can do this same thing for subtitles too!)

Name it Options / Audio Setup / Everything but English.. whatever you wanna call it, then navigate into that page either by right clicking and "navigate into" or double clicking on the link itself.

Now for each audio track, you need a separate link. Select - Insert - Empty Button and a transparent button will appear -

Select - Media - Text Only and you have your button - name it as you wish preferably matching the track that it will link to.

Under the Action button (Button Properties) - Select - Destination - Parent Menu (Once your audio is selected, this will return to the main menu) - then under "Set Audio Track" - navigate to the track you wish to select. Dat's it.

Preview it and when you click on that link / option, you'll be returned to the main menu but you'll now notice when you play, you'll be playing that particular audio track you chose.

Hopefully this will help. I touched on this under the subtitle segment of the new VASST Advanced DVDA DVD but didn't even go this far as to create a separate menu for audio options, so consider this "untouched training territory" ;)

Without the menu you can always switch through the tracks using the remote but you don't get the visual menu which is the standard in most DVD authoring now.

PM me if you get lost - hopefully this will help though.

good luck with your film!

Thanks, I'll give it a go. I've got the sub menus set up, and have always felt for the most part that I've got a solid grasp of how to get things done, with even animated transitions, etc. But this sub title stuff is new territory to me, so quite intimidating.

As soon as I get done with all the photoshopping I'm doing for the scene selection menu buttons, etc., I'll jump on this next. Thanks!

p.s. So what are DVD scripts really even used for then? I'd imagine they're to automate fairly complex tasks, but not sure how I'd ever even incorporate them.

Scripting from what I understand is used to "program" the DVD in the sense of custom DVD games and such. In all honesty, we couldnt' really even get it to work, Sony has almost zero information on it and IMO it's a broken / useless feature at this point.

Maybe DVDA 5 will fix that.
