DVD ROM anyone?

I'm using Encore 2.0 and I understand where to click to add DVD rom content to a DVD, but how do you access that from a computer?

Basically, I want to have a DVD for viewing on a TV but then have a section with DVD ROM content, where I can add HD clips, which can be viewed on a computer. Do I create link from a menu to the content? But I can't figure out where the content is. You just click the 'disc' tab then browse and select a folder where you have your content. But that is where it stops.

Has anyone done this?

I don't know if there were changes in Encore 2.0, but the 1.5 manual says:

"ROM material is only available on personal computers. Furthermore, it's only available from the desktop, not from the video content of a disc. You specify additional content on the Disc tab of the Project window."

So it looks like you are doing what you should, but that Encore only supports non-video content as far as allowing them to be included on the disc. I would guess the only way to access it would be to use windows explorer to actually navigate through the file structure of the final DVD and retrieve the content manually.

Ok that's what I was thinking. Seems that Encore 2.0 is the same. I guess I could just include a menu that says dvd rom content and then just instructs the viewer to 'explore' the disc to gain access to the material.

Thanks for the reply

Since you can specify where to put the rils for ROM contect, I'm wondering if you could build your own autorun.inf so that when the DVD is put into a computer your folder of files opens automatically... that's a possibility. Autorun files are fairly simple to write.

The following link is for CDs, but I think it's the same for DVD:

What you are referring to is building an Enhanced DVD. You can easily add the content for the ROM side with both Encore 1.5 and 2.0. Yes you can use autorun.inf file for PC side. Mac unfortunately dropped support for autoplay since release of OS X. They were worried about viruses.

As for building the computer files to access the DVD content, call up web links, drive graphics from the DVD video etc., I use Director. It's totally setup to do this from the dvd event manager xtra and it allows me to build executable for both PC and Mac.

DVD works as normal in remote control set top player, but will run through enhanced interface when placed in computer.
