DVD ripping for Edius

A client gave me a non-copyrighted DVD to insert into a project. I am looking for software that will rip the DVD into a file format Edius Broadcast an use.
Can Edius use AVI(DivX) files. If not what is a good ripping software and what format I am wanting to convert a file to.

Edius will accept any AVI that you have a codec for.

That being said, if the DVD isn't CSS-encrypted or region-coded, you can take the VOB file, rename it to MPG, and insert it directly into your project or the media bin.

Or edius has a rip tool built in for DVDs which converts to m2v stream, which you can import and edit. Done it couple of times, works perfectly and is fast - but maybe not as fast as converting renaming VOB file - but I suppose you've got to copy VOB file across whereas ripping performs the copy.

Thats right ROne, Edius has a DISCAPTURE utility under the "capture" menu. It allows you to access the titles on a dvd disc since an authored dvd sometimes "chops" up the VOB files.

I've had oodles of problems using the disc capture tool.
The resulting files usually were ok to begin with, but further into the files, I could no longer scrub, and the player would only display black, or would take a couple of minutes to update.
The resulting m2v files seemed to be seen as being only a fraction of the length they should be by most players, even though the file size indicated data had been written for the entire clip.

The only think that worked for me was to convert the VOBs with procoder to canopus HQ format. Drag and drop the vobs into the source field in the procoder wizards and away you go.
The resulting DV is much nicer to use on the timeline than unconverted mpg anyways.

This has been my experience: I'm glad the disc capture tool is working better for some of you other folks.
