DVD Output - Brightness issues

Hi

I'm trying to output my film to DVD for festivals etc, but having tested the copy on DVD players and Computers they seem to vary wildly in terms of some scenes seem too dark to see on some computers/players and are nice and clear on others. Is there a standard I should be aiming for? - And how do I achieve that?
